Thai police say there's no evidence that the attacks are related to international terrorism. No war room thread for some reason...

Five provinces in Thailand have been hit by 11 bombings in less than a day, authorities say.
At least four Thai nationals have been killed and about 36 others were injured, including 10 foreigners, according to Anurak Amornpetchsathaporn with the Ministry of Public Health.
No one has claimed responsibility for the blasts, and it's not clear if the bombings are connected.
Thai police say there's no evidence the attacks are related to international terrorism.
"These incidents are different from the usual terrorism acts. They are more local sabotage on certain locations and provinces," Deputy Police Spokesman Maj. Gen. Piyapan Pingmuang said at a news conference Friday.
Political unrest has in recent years roiled Thailand, resulting at times in protests. The series of blasts comes days before the first anniversary of the Erawan Shrine bombing, which killed 20 people, and five days after the country voted on a new constitution.

My mum and dad are in the thick of it apparently. Got an email from my Dad last night saying bombs were exploding all around them. They're in Hua Hin

I'd like Anurak Amornpetchsathaporn in the UFC so Goldie's head will explode when he tries to call his fight.

I have a good buddy who spends 6 months there every year. He loves Thailand.

Let's hope it all works out.

That is actually an extreme escalation of the conflict. They did not just target tourist areas, but they did it on the Queens birthday and in Hua Hin which is the summer residence of the King.
That will not go down well. But not really a big deal in terms of victims considering how many people died in the last 20 years.

could still be distant echos from previous yellow shirt/red shirt confrontation. but seeing as they mostly happened in South, it was probably the Muslims.

Yeah, this definitely fits the bill of Malay Muslims in the south of the country. They're quite hostile and militant. Thailand doesn't like to bring that up much because it scares tourism away, a big staple for Thailand's economy.

yep, after the plane went down in Egypt, only crazy and desperate go there for vacation.

Royal Thai Police Col. Krisana Patanacharoen told reporters it was “too early to conclude” who was behind the attacks. But he said the bombings followed “a similar pattern used in the southern parts of the country” — a reference to a low-level insurgency in the country’s Islamic south that has ground on for more than a decade and killed more than 5,000 people.
...
When Thai police say they have ruled out terrorism, they have done nothing of the sort. The authorities in Thailand [...] are desperate to minimise the damage to tourism, and will say anything they think will achieve this," said Andrew MacGregor Marshall, author of A Kingdom in Crisis: Thailand's Struggle for Democracy in the Twenty-First Century. "In fact, police have no idea at this stage who was behind the bombings."
