Does anyone know of any places to train in Jiu Jitsu or Judo around the Texas Panhandle? I wrestled for 10 years and trained MMA at various McDojos around town for about half a year but I just love the grappling game. I feel my skill set would work a lot better in Judo but in the long run Jiu Jitsu would help my game more. For a wrestler I'm great off my back and I pick up submissions pretty damn fast. I'd love to find a legit school or dojo though so any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Sorry if this is the wrong place for this post, let me know what to do if it is.

Klay Pittman's in Lubbock...not exactly the panhandle, but if you're close by there, he's top notch instruction...

I'm about an hour north of Amarillo if that helps pinpoint my location lol. Thanks a lot for the reply, I appreciate it.

I'm bumping this for the night crowd, if no else posts I'll just let it die.

I see it's txmma.com, thanks for the link. I am hoping to find a school that only teaches one of the grappling arts though. My small town has gone through five MMA McDojos in the past two years and I've had nothing but bad experiences due to a lack of professionalism. I want a specialist that has nothing to do with MMA so that I don't have to worry about Tapout douchebags flooding into the school expecting to "throw bombs" and then acting like the ground game is gay. The coaches always seem to cater to those guys because its the easiest way to make money fast and then hop to the next town to set up shop teach another batch how to train UFC brah.

I can't believe I haven't found them yet. It looks pretty legit.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu ? MMA Amarillo, TX

^what about this place?? seems to be bjj oriented with a 2nd degree black belt, Edgar Santos as lead instructor.

I'm kind of ticked off. I love MMA, it's my favorite sport to watch, but it's killing all the legit grappling gyms in the area. I called this place and not only do they not offer any gi classes, they don't even offer pure grappling classes at all. They only offer "BJJ"/TKD classes now. So I guess I'm going to be joining the judo dojo in Amarillo that has judo classes 2 times a week for $99 a month. Does that seem fair, and is 2 times a week enough for me to seriously improve?

2 times per week > 0 times per week. Judo is a great grappling art to learn and you can't go wrong with it, Judo & BJJ complement each other very well. If taking Judo is the only legit grappling instruction you can find, go for it.

There's a Japanese jiu jitsu place in my own town that is $55 bucks a month. I might try to do that and judo. So it'll be two classes of JJJ and two classes of Judo a week for $155 bucks a month. What do yall think?

Good luck man.

Where do you live, anyways? My brother lived in Higgins, Texas. About 30 minutes north of Canadian I think it was. I stayed at the only hotel in Higgins for his wedding. Town is like 450 people.

Thanks. I live in Borger, its not that small but its not too big either. Theres about 14,000 here though you'de never know it. It's about an hour and a half from Canadian.

I to hate all these MMA schools... just wish there was more bjj
only schools in my area

MMA gyms open up and close down almost monthly around here, the area loves MMA and I'm sure the gyms are making a ton of money cashing in on noobs who want to say they trained UFC and then head to the next town to cash in again.
