Yesterday I got my first stripe. I could have had it awile back, but at end of session my instructure told me it cost 35 dollars. I like my instructure and everything, but do you think that that is to much? My family doesent have much money, and can barly pay the monthly fee I dont know. I guess I just feel that if I pay a monthly fee, that I shouldnt have to pay to test what do you think?

35 dollars for a one stripe white belt?

That is not a school at which I would train.

how much to you pay a month? We don't even have stripes at my gym, we don't pay for promotions either..we don't even know when we are being tested or when we will get the belt...

Paying for stripes is retarded, it shouts McDojo.

I never took any stripe tests as a white belt, I just got my blue when my instructor thought I was ready, and I passed the test and got the belt. No fees or anything.

That is BS. Tell him your cool with just waiting for your blue then. Stripes are useless anyway.

Does your school have a website?

My coach told me stripes are just a way to make money. Testing in BJJ is bull. I thought most bjj instructors promote based on whether or not they think you are ready. Thats how they do it at my gym.

I dont see anything wrong with an informal test even though its rare. I think it could be a good thing because it ensures you have a good knowledge of all the required techniques and their details. Just because you happen to be able to tap higher belts does not neccessarily mean you have a better understanding of more techniques than they do.

That being said test or no test there should never be a fee for a friggen stripe lol. A small fee for a belt ok whatever but a stripe? BS
