It really seems like it was one marine doing a big favor for another. As Luke Thomas says, you never stop being a marine.

A fighter getting the crucifix position by itself shouldn't be enough to stop the fight, anymore than a fighter taking the back would be. The fighter with the dominant position should have to prove that their opponent is screwed in that position. With 14 seconds remaining and Liz throwing weak looking elbows, she had virtually no chance of actually hurting Velasquez let alone finishing her. A TKO stoppage is supposed to save the losing fighter from further damage. That wasn't the case here.

All I learned tonight is that it's a terrible idea to have a military themed card where one of the fighters served and one did not.

Yes, what's worse it was 30-27 from 2 judges so the fight was lost at this point bar a stoppage. Then factor in Juliana is the champion, is winning, there are 10 seconds left, and those shots landing were more like forearm shots, not even elbow tips-the ones Velasquez landed from guard did more damage than this- makes this highly questionable, on the verge of incompetence/corruption.

Suspicious looking result for sure, especially given the betting line movement imo.

smellator has had how many suspect moments now? Remember when people said ken vs kimbo was dubya dubya wrassling n the KO was just ken getting potatoed

I’ve only seen short clips but I think people are overreacting a tiny bit. She deserved more time but she was in trouble.

Didn't see the fight in context, however did look like a very weak stoppage. Seems like a Nelson v Slice "I'm not hurting them but they are in a vulnerable position where they can't defend, therefore stop the fight" kind of shambles

As much of a GOATmouche fan as I am even I have to admit that was an absolutely terrible stoppage. No way Beltran stops a dude in that position.

It was nice to see Carmouche win a title after all these years but yes it was a terrible stoppage.

You would think a professional ref that has worked on so many UFC fight cards would have better judgement but instead he pulled a typical Herb Dean quick stoppage rabbit out of his a$$. Seriously I see many refs that need to be given their walking papers and replaced with more competent refs.

Refs need to be to competent and know when to stop a fight weather its a fighter getting the beating of a lifetime or like the quick stoppages we see all the time. Refs need to enforce the rules such as open hand/fingers pointed at opponents to prevent eye pokes or injuries and fence grabs both of which are committed in just about every fight yet ignored by the ref. It's time to clean up the sport.

When Roy Nelson beat Kimbo, he described it as exploiting the rule of "not defending" yet without having to actually inflict damage. - Is that a legit technicality in the rules, that once a fighter can't or isn't defending, they instantly lose? If so, it should perhaps be revisited.

Well in that fight you could clearly see Herb Dean knew the UFC wanted Kimbo to win due to his very large fanbase. From what I can remember in that fight Roy Nelson landed something like 60-80 unanswered blows to Kimbo's head before company man Herb Dean stopped it which was crazy late. Nobody should take 60-80 unanswered shots to the head no matter how pillow fisted they might have been.
