Anway at the beginning Telles looked almost like wrestler (without the takedowns anyway )

I don't see why you would turtle up like that. It seems like a defensive position that can easily be attacked, and it looks like you can't reverse or sweep from there against a good opponent.

telles is good enough to be brasilian champion and makes it to the final four in the worlds..

yes I agree but he is giving a HUGE postional adv to the best and still looks good against him for much of the time. I would guess that if he gave up side mount, mmount or north south (the REAL dominant positions) that he would NOT have enjoyed that success versus jacare.

Knox- I agree that if you are really good at the turtle, then you can make it useful. Most people, like me, wouldn't be comfortable in that position. I mean, you can attack the turtle with the kimura, reverse triangle, the reverse arm triangle choke, gi chokes, quite a few different sweeps, etc. It looks like you would have to be really good (like black belt level) to defend consistantly and get a sweep from the turtle.

Seriously though...people have scored points on Jacare before...only to be subbed sometime during the fight or just lost the fight (with the acception of Roger Gracie and Xande Ribeiro).
