So for the past 4 days or so, my desktop is acting up again.

At first, when I start it up. my monitor doesn't light up seemingly that nothing is detected, then the CPU auto shut down within 20s.
Just minutes ago, it manage to load to window, but shut down again after 5mins of start up.

I have had this problem before with my previous PC, and the general result I gotten from google is overheating. That particular PC eventually died when my nephew went to power down instead of shutting down.

I have checked that my fan is working, dust have been vacuumed; there were minimum there in the first place, plus my PC is in an air con room.
Funny thing is IF my PC works and I leave it on for overnight, this problem doesn't happens. It only happens if I tries to start it from power down in the morning.

Any idea what might be causing the problem?

EDIT:
Oh yeah, I did a virus/malware scan yesterday when I managed to get my PC working. Nothing came up.

Stop buying shitty computers.

Sorry man, I got nothing.

I not tech savvy and always depend on what the sales person recommend me. But most of my friends goes to the same shop and one or two of them always goes with me when I purchase a new PC. I doubt it's because of a lousy PC. I usually get those built in ones instead of getting my own parts. I only use my PC to surf and watch shows, not a gamer of sorts so I didn't need it to be top notch anyway.

I'd open up the computer and look at the heat sink (that's over the cpu). One time, my computer had lots of dust in the crevices of the heat sink. It would shut down. After blowing out the dust, it took care of the problem.

I just vacuum the internal parts before making this thread.

Sounds like maybe its your power supply

Care to elaborate?

Also, please keep posting possible solution. I will be heading out in 30mins or so but will be checking on my phone.

Power supply powers your PC

if it keeps shutting down it could be that your Power Supply is not working correctly

You said you just have a normal prebuilt PC and you dont game so I doubt its an overheating problem

@TheRuthlessOne
So I should be checking for faulty wires?

EDIT:
I did just remove another plug from the extension cord and seems to be working.

There is a fan over the heat sink. What I did was to remove the 4 screws and lift off the fan. There can be a lot of dust under there, stuck in the fins of the heat sink.

This happened to me once before. Turns out was lonely and needed some attention. Took out for a date and gave it plenty of wood. Shaped right up. Consider taking out to simple date like Taco Bell and giving it really good from behind.

yeah first thing to do before thinking about switching out and buying new parts is clean for dust, you'll be surprised how many times this solves the issue.

reseat ur cpu. REMEMBER, use plenty ot thermal grease on both sides sometimes the factory forgets and only puts it on one side.

Yeah sounds like a blocked up heat sink to me. Also when you remove your heat sink make sure there is heat paste between it and the CPU it really does make a difference.

Did you try turning it off and then turning it back on again?

DO NOT OPEN THE POWER SUPPLY AND GO POKING AROUND! Sorry for the caps, but you could kill yourself.

You don't need to put paste on both sides. A pea size blob in the middle is good enough.

I would buy a chrome book is all you do is surf. It's cheap and easily replaceable if damaged.

I'd like to get a Chrome book, but I'd wait for the newer models coming out that will allow one to run Android apps. Also, I would dual boot Ubuntu, Mint or some other Linux distro.

Thanks for all the input, it's currently working fine. I will try out some of the methods mentioned here and see if the problem persist, hopefully not.

I really appreciate all the help provided.
