Don't even know if he's top 2 at LW. Maybe top 3, i'd pick loma

He's short as well, don't see him moving up too much. They should have picked someone else

I don't think he's the face of boxing but he's been in enough fights at this point to be pretty well known. His last fight got a lot of attention and he wins by KO most of the time so I can see why a lot of people know of him.

He's in the top 10 for "faces of boxing", but he's not THE face of boxing.

Face of boxing is still determined by match ups, like Tank vs winner of Loma/Haney or Teo/Taylor

Thats a good thing

Usyk would probably become face of boxing if he beat Fury, but probably Canelo for a ways longer.

That's just a promotional pitch. He beat the most popular young fighter, and he's young himself, so Gen Z youth probably view him as leading the way forward. Shakur Stevenson may have a say about that in the near future but for now it's Tank.

I dont know about the face of boxing

but in australia tank is way more popular than ryan garcia

Nobody knows about him outside of boxing's niche fans.

A face is someone who is publicly recognizable. Tank is not recognizable. He looks like a crack baby.

Ryan Garcia is more recognizable than him at least in the States which is the most relevant market for the LWs.

I think people are confusing momentum and winning with popularity. The answer to this is pretty obviously Canelo. Tank wouldn't even be top 5, he doesn't have more press than a few heavyweights and I would argue Loma has been in the media spotlight for far longer which makes him more recognizable.

No one is confusing momentum and winning with popularity. Tank is very very popular right now. You could argue Ryan is more popular with certain demographics, but not overall. What was Ryan's biggest guaranteed purse, a million? Tanks was double that.

Social media is a much better indicator of recognizablity. There are a lot of variables that go into guaranteed purses. I actually do not know who has the bigger following on social media ATM, but it certainly used to be Garcia. Is that not the case anymore? If Garcia fought bigger names he would likely command larger purses - that is fairly consistent with how boxing works, including Tanks career (I would assume that is why Tank and Ryan fighting each other drew a lot).

Ryan Garcia has never fought anyone before Tank. The fact that he can make a million dollars which is the same amount as champions when he is fighting no one and he is incredibly young himself would mark in his favor. You don't think that plays a factor?

I am not sure how many people there are who know who Tank Davis is but would not know who Ryan Garcia is. That guy said that it is like that in Australia, maybe he is right but that isn't the case in USA. It wouldn't seem odd to me that there are people who know who Ryan Garcia but not Tank. Wouldn't that make Ryan more recognizable?

Guaranteed purses are THE overall factor of a fighter' marketability. You seem to be conflating social media presence with that. Tank has fought so-so names, but he has been the spectacle every time out, that's why his purses have gone up. Ryan made a million against Fortuna, and that's also partially because of the viable status of Fortuna. Tank made 2 mil fighting Rolly, a novelty act who says offensive sh*t for views and does not nice things to women (I've personally seen them).

You're stating your opinion, which is fine, but you need something to base that on. You cant just say "well it seems to me that people would know this guy and not that guy"...when one guy is clearly being paid better than the other guy in a Sport where pay depends directly on marketability.

Kinda weird to State Tank's previous PPV buys but not Ryan's. And the new face of boxing cant get stopped in a fight and claim that. Unless he plans to go the Arturo Gatti route

You guys have to realize that most of those spewing this “face of boxing” nonsense are those who would love him to be it, showtime or his handlers. Realistically though, GGG, Canelo, Bivol, Fury, Joshua, Wilder, Usyk, fuck even Ruiz, all are bigger mainstream names than Tank
