Are there any tall, lanky fighters, particularly in MMA that have very good takedowns? I'm looking for someone to emulate (MMA footage is easier to get, unless you can link me).

I tried being Matt Hughes and for some reason its not working...j/k.

Tall lanky takedown guys?

Nogueira (both of them)
Kharitonov
Tom Erikson, lanky, but not thin.

Ill try to think of more

overeem actually has good takeodwns from the clinch.

Are the Noguiera brothers that tall? hmm... maybe it's my TV screen but they don't seem that tall and lanky to me. How tall are those guys?

Alistair Overeem is probably the best guy - he took Belfort down like it was nothing and it took Couture and Ortiz several minutes to get him down.

There both 6' 3", or 191 cm (i believe) if you prefer.

Yeh and Overeem did really well with Igor V. He was able to take him down well.

I have the same problem. I'm 6'3" and I feel like I'm telegraphing every attempt. Lately I've been using trips from the clinch because my legs are long.

Hmmm...yah...Overeem does have decent takedowns, just watched him dumping Shogun several times (before getting owned). He likes the body lock and outside trip....thats cool, I admit I like that too, but its hard to get while grappling since you're not usually upright like MMA (were usually hunched like wrestlers). Any others? keep em coming.

You tall guys should learn uchi-mata. You'll throw shorter guys everytime.

try over hooking the head from the far side and the pushing the head to set up a level change takedown - works well for the tall guy

Can you describe this in a little more detail, or pic please?? Can't quite picture it.

ok well i take my left hand and grab the opponents head from the side - my palm is on the top of his head with my fingers running from left to right -

he is shorter so thay is why it is easy for me to get this head control.

I then pull his head with my left hand - sideways to the left

at the same time my right hand goes against his left shoulder (ie my RHS) and I push him left wards

This will destabilize him which is all the set up u need for a level change (i.e change levels down on one knee) to shoot in for a single or double.

The point is that the taller wrestler can have the advantage in controlling the shorter guys head. I dont think a tall guy will ever be a wreslting champ but there are some advantages

Thanks, but no worries...I've got it on tape. I've been loving watching Shogun mow everybody down over and over, and watching Fedor lay the smackdown on Crocop.

Genki sudo is tall for his weight class and he has sudden takedowns.
