The rentals there are so cheap but I hear the work potential's not good. The Mentalist makes it look like a beautiful town sort of city and I heard it has the most trees of a city in America which is really nice. Is California as fucked as the press will allow us to believe?

Anyone live there?

I've been there once and saw a lot of hippies. They even appeared to have designated times to play hacky sack at a park i stopped at. From what i remember it's a nice looking place, though. That's all i have to contribute to this thread.

I live less than an hour from it.. There's alot to do in surrounding areas. There's a river for boating a few Indian Casinos. Plus Tahoe is like a hour and a half away. Same with skiing and San Fran just the other direction. Old Sac is pretty cool with some fun bars. The A's triple A affiliate is there and the stadium is very nice.. Job situation isn't great to be honest but home prices are.

Uriah faber and tj dillashaw live there, thats all I know

I was there very briefly a decade ago and it was very very hot. On'y like 99 but the sun was steaming hot.

Ya it can get in the low 100's in the summer, but it's a dry heat not much humidity.. Plus you can hit the river..

I lived near there almost my entire life and I wouldn't recommended it. The economy sucks balls and has one of the worst job markets in the nation. Summertime sucks in a valley in triple digits. If you can get around those hurdles then I guess it's not that bad.

Yeah, work thing's a bit of an issue. Damn.
Are you looking to move there?
Oh we're twizzling here there and everywheres at the moment, I've just taken a liking to Sacramento because it looks so lovely on The Mentalist and my other half's working with a bird at the moment who's from there. She said what I said pretty much; wonderful to live but fuck all work. He's a marketing bloke so I guess it ain't going to work out but looking at what we could get for our money I'm thinking how great Cisco Meeting Place is.

sacramento is an okay city. there's certainly better places to live and work in, but there's definitely worse too.

hot summers (well over 100), lots of traffic on the freeways (especially at the i-5 and 99 junctions), no parking at fucking all - and they are vultures when it comes to your parking. if you are even 30s over the time, they'll hit you. they are that dedicated to parking ticket money.

lots of wind storms too. had a tree branch nearly cut me in half one time. the indian casinos are disgusting, tons of meth addicts hang out there. if you enjoy gambling though you are only a few hours from south lake tahoe, which has some nice resorts.

job market really sucks. i mean really, really sucks. so i wouldn't recommend going there first and hoping to find good work, it'll be hard.

surprisingly though the women aren't too bad in sacramento. used to go out drinking a lot, and i was always kinda surprised at the number of attractive single girls i came across. lots of trash too that will steal your wallet the second you turn away, but that's just life i guess.

main downside for me socially was way too many white trash bros. they think they are tough badass gangsters or something and they are fucking everywhere in sacramento. streets of london is probably the worst, hate that place with a passion. if you really want to grab a relaxed drink in a calm social atmosphere, i recommend the golden bear. i actually scored a few dates at that place.

oh, and a little hidden gem of sacramento: squeeze-inn burgers. it's a hole in the wall, tiny ass place off of power inn rd. you wouldn't think anything of it driving by, but god damn do they make a tasty burger. don't go during peak hours b/c you'll be there forever waiting. they don't even have tables, just a big bar with stools to sit at. you'll literally clutch your chest in discomfort, but it tastes so good going down. there's also a joint called willy's on broadway (a semi-ghettoish area, but not that bad really) that is kind of like a cheap version of in and out burger, except you can dump chili on everything.

There is always to California State Gubment there as an economic driver. You can always count on that. It is much like Albany NY in that sense. Albany's is not doing to bad at the moment. Other upstate cities like Binghamton, Rochester, Cuse, and Buffs are in worse shape. But Albany also has many unis. Does Sac town have ani institutes of higher debt?.

Yeah, I think the job market's pretty much fucked it. I guess that's why it's so cheap to live there. We have amazing public transport here though, is it not the same there?

Can you not live right in the middle...ish?

Where are you living at the moment, Cuffs? Have you moved from Amsterdam?

(if you have your location under your AV I apologise but I can't see it on my phone).

Most of this is spot on, except Squeeze Inn sucks since they moved to West Sac. If I'm going to get a burger in West Sac, I'm going to Whitey's Jolly Kone.

TS, Sacramento isn't that bad. The government is a big economic driver and the job market has dried up severely since the housing crash. Sacramento has no real industry aside from state government, and while the housing bubble was expanding, many, many jobs in the area were tied to the construction industry, or mortgage finance or something. When the bubble burst, those jobs disappeared.

The summers are fucking brutal, regularly over 100 F, but spring and fall are very mild.

The real attraction of Sacramento is that you're within 2 hours of Lake Tahoe or Reno, 2 hours of the Bay Area or wine country.

The MMA/BJJ scene is pretty big here, so if you train there are several very good options.

I live in Sacramento. Work potential is good. There was just an article on CNN, or something, rating it as one of the best job cities for young professionals. There is plenty of blue collar stuff too. I've never seen the Mentalist. But some areas are beautiful. Some areas are complete shit (mostly the south area with exception to Greenhaven and Land Park). It does have the most trees. California is still a great place to live. The best part about Sacramento is that, if you don't like Sacramento, you're only about 90 miles from SF, and Lake Tahoe. Napa Valley is even closer. So you can just decide to make any of those a day trip. It is extremely diverse. For example, most Americans didn't even know what Hmongs were until Gran Torino came out. I already knew because they stole my car and tried to kill me.

People complain about there not being enough things to do. But the nightlife is pretty much like anywhere else, with enough douchebag dance clubs/bars to get your fill of pussy. Unless you really enjoy visiting multiple art museums every day, you won't notice. But there are plenty of art galleries. And Second Saturday is basically a giant party.

This is true

Indian Casinos - I won't know why anyone would go to one unless it was to see some MMA fights.

job market really sucks. i mean really, really sucks. so i wouldn't recommend going there first and hoping to find good work, it'll be hard.

The job market is fine. There are tons of government jobs. You just have to test into them and get on a list.

surprisingly though the women aren't too bad in sacramento. used to go out drinking a lot, and i was always kinda surprised at the number of attractive single girls i came across. lots of trash too that will steal your wallet the second you turn away, but that's just life i guess.

I'd say this is spot on. Lots of Asian girls in the south area and downtown, if that's your things. And if you're on Sherdog, I think it's safe to say you have a creepy Asian fetish, as well as an extensive collection of Tia Tanaka videos.

main downside for me socially was way too many white trash bros. they think they are tough badass gangsters or something and they are fucking everywhere in sacramento. streets of london is probably the worst, hate that place with a passion. if you really want to grab a relaxed drink in a calm social atmosphere, i recommend the golden bear. i actually scored a few dates at that place.

Streets of London is usually pretty good. There are fights there occasionally. But the Golden Bear is pure shit. It's basically a rundown house where hipster college dropouts drink what they think is the trendiest beer at the time. But if that's what you're into, it's perfect.

There are now multiple Squeeze Inns in West Sac and downtown. They are more comfortable. Willy's is the obvious late night food destination after a night of drinking downtown. And it's probably a little ghetto to most people. But really, it's a nice area until you pass Franklin. After that, watch yo' ass.

LOL

Sac isn't bad, I'm from where Gear's from. It's actually a decent choice if you find good work because SF, Tahoe, Napa, and Yosemite are all within a day's trip plus you get extremely cheap housing.

Obviously you'll want to visit first and scope out the job market before making the leap. Check out job site postings for the area
