Just as convergent and parallel evolution is a thing, so is the much simpler idea of people developing similar culinary results using ingredients widely available world wide. Same goes for hair styles, earrings and clothing. These people are myopic idiots to say the least.

Us crackers had bone broth soup, dumplings and even ox tail soup behind the iron curtain well before the internet or cultural appropriation was ever a thing. Like Oldshadow said, these people just need to be told to fuck off and the rest of go about our business.

It's absolutely a thing. But it's not what a lot of people seem to think it is. Appreciating, and even adopting, hairstyles or food choices that appeal to you and that you were exposed to through other cultural groups is NOT cultural appropriation proper.

Claiming you are American Indian so that you can get preferential treatment within academia, as Elizabeth Warren did, is textbook cultural appropriation.

So is dabbling in the sacred for material gain or as a cheap fashion statement. That holds true for things like wearing the Hijab or a Nun's habit in porn, as well as something like opening a Yoga studio or a martial arts gym and then playing around with the tenets of some religion you don't have a clue about to market an experience that is more "authentic."

Even these aren't things that should be made illegal (well... other than the above example of falsely claiming a cultural background as a means of landing jobs that you aren't really eligible for), but there are real examples of cultural appropriation, and it's okay to call them out as such.

Reading the comments on the Instagram post is the most saddening thing ever. Humanity has collectively lost brain cells. These woke cultists are the people that will clamour on about the 1% and tech billionaires getting richer and in the same breathe try to force a small business to donate proceeds to a minority group of their choosing on the grounds of "cultural appropriation"
