The UFC has seen some successful Judo players (Rousey), Karate disciples (Machida, Thompson) and Aikido practictioners (Seagal flexin').

Has there ever been a super successful Taekwondo -based fighter in the UFC?

Also, in before the Rogan /threads .

Anthony Pettis is a third degree black belt in Taekwondo

Bas Rutten is also a black belt in TKD, which is handy in spinning kick fools and the juke box in bars

Edson Barbosa is a black belt in TDK, and it shows in his varied spinning strikes

not 100% sure they were from TKD gyms, maybe some other form of karate, but Dennis Siver and Uriah Hall had some nasty spinning kicks

Anderson in the past toyed with the idea of competing in the taekwondo at the Olympics. He's a 5th dan blackbelt in taekwondo, but he's trained to a high level in multiple arts.

There are Tae Kwon do style kicks all over the ufc.

Let me clarify. Guys that primarily used their TWD to win fights. TWD was their MAIN discipline.

Actually GSP started as a karate stylist but not TKD and developed a full game including some of the best wrestling in MMA.

Paul Felder started in TKD.

In the US there's a pretty good shot your first martial art is TKD.

Lots of them. The thing about taekwondo is you have to find the right place. My kids are in taekwondo but it’s heavily based on sparring and competing. Not as great at forms and such. They still do forms. And still a huge money grab, but much more fighting based.

Not all martial arts has to be geared towards mma. I started my son in tkd, they do sparring and kick each other but no head kicks yet. I think its a good start, i told him if he gets his black belt and wants to do more hardcore stuff he can do kickboxing or muay thai, but only if he wants to.
