Hear System of a Down’s First New Music in 15 Years, ‘Protect the Land’ and ‘Genocidal Humanoidz’
With Azerbaijan waging war against the homeland of the band members’ ancestors, the group decided to strike back and use its music to raise funds for its countrymen

Of the two I prefer Genocidal Humanoids. Not their best work but awesome they got together again for an important cause. In addition to raising funds they're asking people to call their representatives to push for a boycott of Armenia and Turkey.

I don't know too much about the conflict but my understanding is the disputed area is almost 100% ethnically Armenian and de facto independent anyway and very integrated with Armenia. But internationally its recognized as part of Azerbaijan. Goes to show that international recognition tends to have a strong status quo bias even when it makes no fucking sense as it does here.

Btw here's another song they did a long time ago dedicated to the Armenian Genocide. Better than these recent two IMO, vintage SOAD

That's not vintage soad. This is a true vintage about the Armenian genocide

Yeah I feel the same way, at the same time its pretty neat that they reunited on a whim for a cause like this. I did find it funny to read them quoted in the article as saying there aren't many Armenian celebrities out there. There's one off the top of my head that is kind of a big deal...

System of a down blows nuts. I'd rather listen to Rebecca Black.

SOAD is definitely the best alternative/nu metal band. far better than the overrated Tool and Deftones.

Both songs are good and sound like 2005 SOAD.

I am glad they are working together again this would have made me ecstatic ten years ago. Both songs sound like they came off the mesmerize/hypnotize albums.

Gave both a listen out of respect for serj and them, I enjoyed Protect the land because it has that old school system sound we all love. The other one was wack.

Let's hope she donates some of her money to help support the cause. Otherwise this is just virtue signaling to me.

I wasn't a huge fan of them when they first hit it big, but then I saw them live at Ozzfest one year. They were incredible live. So damn heavy.

In this case, her just mentioning it probably massively raises awareness. For most it's just virtue signaling, here I'm actually defending her, wow.

All that nu metal shit was unbearable back then.

Better than that emo shit, though.
