Movies Sylvester Stallone Marathon: The Expendables

But again I explained that already. 0 pro fights have nothing to do with it. He was an amateur champion and Creed didnt take him seriously anyway and Creed called him out not the other way around.

Apollo was once an undefeated and unbeatable champ, he is not coming out of retirement and fighting some unknown with 0 professional bouts as a return fight. That makes 0 sense. Apollo hand picking Rocky because he wanted to beat up an Italian on Columbus day to save a fight card makes sense. Creed hand picking an unknown with 0 experience just to feed his hunger to win again does not.

The raft > the robot

But again Creed wanted to fight drago to go out on some sort of victory. Also Drago wasnt unknown completely, the Russians were parading him around as the next big thing.

Its not a situation where the sanctioning bodies declared Drago should fight creed. Creed himself wanted the fight because he thought it would be a good way to get some last minute glory and end a hype train.

Apollo specifically tells rocky in the movie that he cant let fighting go. It makes perfect sense and they even fully explain why he wants the fight.

Thanks man appreciate it, I'm good just lost still, devoid of answers for a while

You can always go outside and randomly yell at your neighbors until the cops come, then walk back inside like nothing happened sir lol.

And that's nice and all but I ain't buying it. It's a good movie at best but it's overrated. It also went the desperate route of showing clips from the previous Rocky movies which the other movies didn't have to do.

Logan > Rocky 4

I didnt mind it. It's just rocky reminiscing about the past. Also I'm pretty sure Stallone originally intended 4 to be the last movie. Plus There's no easy way out is a great song.

Logan is overrated self absorbed crap.

Apollo wanted to fight Drago because he couldn't let go of fighting and saw how they were hyping him up. Him and Rocky have a conversation about this before the fight when he tries to talk him out of it "we cant do those things anymore".

I think Apollo just never got over ending his career on a loss. Its established in 3 pretty much, "when you beat me, I hurt all over".

So he saw Drago as an easy way to go out with some kind of win and his ego blinded him to the dangers of fighting drago and he underestimated him.

In fact you can make the same point in Rocky 1. Creed was the champ and cleaned out his division. Rocky was a club fighter with like a 60 and 40 record with nothing to indicate he should've gave Creed any trouble.

Also, as was mentioned earlier, it was the whole Soviet Union (big, evil, scary, drugs, etc.) threatening the way of the US and the way of the world. It was during the Cold War. So everyone in the US wanted to see pro-US movies "winning" the Cold War.

Plus Rocky added the "maybe we can all change" hope aspect.

Man, I freaking love The Expendables, saw it in theaters and it was everything I hoped it would be
None of that foo foo bullshit thats ruining movies today, just a buncha old school tough guys killing foreigners with reckless abandon and real explosions, pretty much all you need in an action flick
Plus, Stallones truck in that movie was bad ass as fuck

Continuing our pro wrestling theme, both Nikita Koloff and Kerry Von Erich were called in to audition for the role of Ivan Drago
I would love to see the look on Sly’s face when Kerry’s Texas drivel tried to do a Russian accent
“I must break y-“
“Thank you, Mr. Von Erich, that will be all.”

The ending scene of the main cast all riding motorcycles together to Guns N Roses is how every movie should end quite frankly

I cant imagine Kerry ever looking menacing once in his life, I dont think a half glazed over goofy smiling Drago woulda had quite the same effect

No easy way out was awesome. One thing is for sure, I prefer the directors cut of rocky v Drago over the original Rocky IV version

Death to the robot!

Oof, "The Expendables". One of the most disappointing movies ever. Really thought that Sly would bring the old school 80's ultra violence after Rambo 4, but it was just this forgettable and soulless PG-13 modern day shitty action movie.

Are you sure you are talking about the first movie?

Anyway. I liked it. It was what it was made to be.

Statham and jet Li was badass

I might watch the directors cut of Rocky v Drago in the near future but I don't see much of an improvement of the movie minus taking out the robot.
I greatly preferred the threatrical cut. It flows so good and everything made sense for the movie. The director's cut feels choppy, out of sync, and a few things suddenly don't make sense. Although it's nice to see the extras, I definitely don't like what he did.

Ideally, someone should make a hybrid cut that keeps things overall how they were in the T-cut but adds in certain D-cut scenes. I feel that would be best. (such as Rocky talking to Adrian in the kitchen, Adrian begging Rocky not to go right before he heads to Russia, more of the warrior speech, and somehow cut in the post fight between Rocky and Drago without taking out the flag jump ending)

I hope someday there is a complete 4K set (physical) with all the movies and they include both cuts of IV in 4K.

Are you sure you are talking about the first movie?

Yup. Even when the R-rated DC version came out, you got a little bit of bad CGI blood in some scenes, and that was about it, outside of some pointless scenes. Not that I was expecting it to be some great movie or anything, apart from some crazy action, but compare it to "Rambo 4", which is a bit silly in the script department, but holy shit those action scenes were memorable. There are so many sequences in "Rambo 4" that are burned into my brain, because it trumped my expectations so much. "The Expendables" is just boring outside of seeing big names all come together. On top of that, the characters in R4 had actual character. The were distinct in their stereotypical roles. Even the fuckin' Asian dude in R4, who is probably the most forgettable of the bunch, is more memorable than any character in "The Expendables".

I wanted big dumb fun with "The Expendables", and it only clicked one of those boxes. To me, it's really no better than a run of mill "Fast and Furious" flick.

The "Warning Shot" scene is good. The auto-shotgun...nah. The effects are bad, and being that it's Terry Crews, it feels like the beginning of an Old Spice commercial.

You know different taste in movies. Thats fine. Some people are into Gore porn like squid game, hostel, saw. But thats not for me
