Was hoping to pull away from the school horror stories/promotion threads and go towards techniques.

I'm trying to improve my sweeps by widening my arsenal. I usually go for the basic scissor or flower sweeps, and anything other than that really just ends up being luck or a guess. I thought it would be good to have some videos to the seemingly large number bjj starters that have been posting lately too. Can you more advanced guys provide some sweeps/video links that you've come across in your training?

Here is my video contribution for the basic ones that I use:

    Scissor Sweep: Gerbil

    YouTube - Guard scissor sweep.MP4

    Sit up Sweep (hip bump):

YouTube - Pedro Sauer Sit up sweep Technique

    Flower Sweep: Hillary

YouTube - Hillary Williams demonstrates the flower sweep from guard

Sorry if there is already a thread like this.

Not really a sweep but, If you can hit a switch when your guard is about to get passed that works really well.

I've been trying to work variations of this sweep:

There seem to be a lot of options from that position.

Don't know if this is the actual name for it , but I like the kimura sweep. Going for the kimura, you can't get it so you keep their arm trapped and sweep 'em.

    Andreh's DVD is really good!

He doesn't just teach sweeps, but the underlying principles of balance and timing that actually make them work. I studied the video for a week and made noticeable improvements on sweeps that have been hard for me in the past. He also teaches techniques in a series so you have options depending on what your opponent gives you. Best $30 you'll spend if you want to improve your closed guard sweep game.

Here's the thread all about it:

Here's Andre Galvao with some half guard sweeps:

I also seem to hit a half-butterfly half-guard sweep which I can't find online...maybe it's not a proper technique but it works often with me. I basically get half guard, and I insert a butterfly hook. Then I wait for my opponent to start moving up, maybe going for a crossface, and I control his far arm and just lift him with my leg hook and sweep him almost like a regular butterfly sweep.

We actually went over this one in class recently. I really like the sweep, but haven't been able to pull it off in live rolling.

I've been getting a lot of sweeps lately by focusing on my opponents hips and stretching them. At that point I really waiting until I feel them off balance.

I'm trying to work with bigger people too and resist the urge to just explode. I figure if my sweep works slow and relaxed that it will work when I add my explosion back in.

I think the focus on the hips, balance and stretching the opponent is a common theme in a lot of sweeps.
