Rewatched last night and was surprised by some things from Luke.

- He seemed to really get tired by beginning of the 3rd. Weidman looked like he was starting to take over to an extent. His gas tank doesn't seem great.

- He gets hit with big shots fairly easily. Weidman was actually landing the more meaningful kicks (hurt Luke at one point) and was getting in some good punches, too.

- Weidman took Luke down fairly easily. Was surprised at number of times Luke looked lackadaisical with tdd.

Overall he just didn't look as good in that fight as I remembered and some of his vulnerabilities could come into play vs Branch. This is not even to mention the beating he took from Bisping, whom many regard a weak champ and not an elite level guy. This fight with Branch could be interesting.

Keeps chin up at end of combinations, which is why the Bisping rematch wasn't a fluke. Compared to first fight Bisping added an additional punch to the end of his sequences and he found Rockholds chin because of it.

Weidmans kicks had nothing on them, Luke was landing the heavier kicks

I think that this is why everyone who was unbiased, or non Luke nuthuggers, were shocked at the stupidity of that "fancy" kick......Weidman was clearly taking over and heading into an imposing will type of performance....and then that kick. I think it is fair that Rockhold gets a lot of credit goes to Rockhold for seizing the moment, but he certainly didnt make that moment happen...it kinda landed in his lap and he knew what to do and did it well.

Everyone should watch that fight again and reevaluate Rockholds lackadasical performance.

lol at weidman taking over.

luke beat the absolute shit out of weidman at the end though, and personally i had luke winning before the spin kick.

even in that fight, he fights like he doesn't respect his opponent and seems so half assed in everything he does.

The main rockhold tendency is getting knocked out by non Americans

Rockhold has a hard time seeing punches. i do not think he is someone who has the "eye" for being a counter striker, even though the way he fights he fancies himself one.

this is a dangerous delusion in my opinion. if you watch in his Lyoto fight, Luke was pretty much getting outstruck by Lyoto until he knocked him down with that clubbing clothesline. and even after Lyoto was rocked out of his mind, he was still outstriking and countering Luke until Luke tripped him to the floor again.

in my honest opinion, Luke's opinion of himself is what loses him fights. if he was more focused on grappling, and using his size in the clinch like Jones, he'd be much more harder to beat in my opinion. because he's a much better grappler than he is a striker.

I think he wins. It will be interesting none the less.

it could be interesting, but i see rockhold getting the knockout within the first two rounds. he appears to be extremely focused, and he won't take any fighter lightly after what bisping did to him.

Branch doesn't have Weidman's wrestling/TDs and he rarely kicks, so I don't know how much of this will come into play. Weidman's biggest concern should be counterpunches and being careful on the ground--Branch's BJJ is quite good, though Luke's is better. If Luke works on his weaknesses and respects his opponents a bit more, he'll be very hard to beat.

Weidman landing more meaningful kick and take Luke down easily? What fight are you watching?

said in another thread, supposedly luke was sick going into the weidman fight, this is one situation where i am going to give im the benefit of the doubt, purely because we hadn't seen him look so mediocre before

i'll wait for today to make my judgement if he's over the hill, i somehow doubt he is tho

Weidman was out on his feet. He was gassed worse than McGregor in the Nate fight.

I agree with this assessment. His striking defense is his real Achilles Heel. He's got holes all over and is not good enough to keep win streaks.

I don't think Luke has the power to stop Branch, I actually see this as a fairly boring 5 rounds, with Luke dictating the cage for a lopsided yet uninspired win.

Beyond his kicks, Luke is pretty average

He's hot though

I've always said Luke has very bad stand up defense agaisnt punches, BUT, he's able to impose his offense before it takes major effect.

He's the type to be able to get caught, and hurt, or caught often, but he's such a devastating kicker, and striker himself, and he's very long, and athletic, so he nullifies a lot of his stand up flaws.

But yeah, I thought Chris was on his way of winning the fight, before the stupid spinning wheel kick. I think Chris takes him in a rematch.

As for Branch, no clue. Never seen him fight. and that's another thing. There's way too many fighters in the UFC, and all of a sudden, they've racked up like 3-4 wins, and you didn't even know about it, because they're on the prelims, or fight pass, so it seems like they just popped up out of nowhere.

The UFC really has to condense some of these events, or maybe get rid of some fighters, and consolidate the talent.

Rockhold said that he had mono going into the fight. Says that’s the reason he was so tired. Rockhold won the 2nd and 3rd (10-8 on all judges scorecards). Obviously, was winning the 4th before the stoppage.

Rockhold’s issue is that he has/shows a lack of respect for some of his opponents, which bit him in the ass against Bisping.
