Hey guys. Brand new to the forum. I'm planning on going to this gym neer me starting this summer to take BJJ classes and also an MMA class. I was just wondering what gear you guys would recommend to me. My brother in law is letting me use his old Gi that he is too big for now for the BJJ class, but as far as sparring gloves and stuff goes, I have no idea what some good brands are and what is cheap/cost friendly.

I was thinking for mma gloves, fairtex has some nicer looking gloves (they just look pretty expensive)

What kind of mouthguard will suffice for just sparring/grappling? I'm pretty sure I won't need some expensive one since I don't plan on having a fight anytime soon.

hand wraps? sparring gloves?

Oh and is it acceptable to just wear like normal shorts to mma practices or would I have to buy some type of grappling shorts?

If you guys could help me out it would be much appreciated.

I've always been very interested in mma. Been watching it for like 6 years now, and I follow it pretty well. Played football when I was younger but never really played any other sports or tried anything else out and I really think I'd do well at mma. Basically ever since I was 15 years old I've been doing nothing but lifting weights, and I'm just in need of something physical that can push me to become better and challenge me to grow. My brother in law tought me some of the basics alreay like your basic punches and leg kicks and stuff, so thats all I've been able to work on due to not having enough money for a legit gym.

I'd love to apply myself at a sport like mma and just see how far I can go with it.

Any other tips/suggestions you guys have would be awesome as well.

I know these "new guy" threads prolly come up way too often and they might annoy you guys but hey I have to start somewhere right?

Thanks.

Well can someone at least message me or something and help me out?

like you said man, these threads come up all the time. The answers to your questions are already on the site. Use the search function, you'll find way more then you'd get from answers to a single thread. You could also just stop by the gym you're planning to go to and they can tell you more specifically what they expect you to have.

Get handwraps, bag gloves, ankle supports and a rashguard, you can buy the rest after training for a while (for you to know is there is "common equipment" that you can use)

Damn it, you are asking for brands... Get title hand wraps, windy/twins bag gloves, whatever ankle supports you may find in your local sports store/drugstore, and any rashhguard may be useful (you can get compression shirts, doesnt really matters at the beggining of your training era, you have to really know if you "dig" practicing mma)
