Substituting Farmers Walk?

I don't have any of those farmers walk bars (yet), 'cause they're rather expensive. But, I was wondering if just grabbing a real heavy barbell off the power rack and holding onto it would substitute for a farmers walk.... I could walk with some dumbbells at the gym, but they only go up to 125's, and I am wanting to go heavier. So would just holding onto a heavy barbell suffice???

Ideally you can purchase 2 olympic tricep bars such as the one in the image below and load it with as much weight as you'd like.

Wam, bam, thank you man....Farmers Walks.

That looks like a hammer curl bar. But yes, a trap bar works nicely in a pinch.

i use barbell..also use barbell for one arm barbell shrugs, think it makes it harder then dumbell because u have to keep weight stablized and centered.

Wow, not one single yay or nay.... Oookaaaayy...

Anyway, on Friday, after I did my CoC grippers, I just grabbed a hold of a 405 barell and held on for as long as I could (which is not that long, as of now), and I did that for a few sets. ... it seemed to be a pretty good forearm workout...
