    Americana from side or mount.

Set up a cross collar choke which will bring their hands up. Then push it to the mat and apply the technique.

You can also slide up to S-mount when their arm comes up and set up the arm bar.

My bread and butter is the bow and arrow choke, which I'm on restriction (self-imposed) from using during class time rolling.

Since your new, some easy ones from mount include an array of collar chokes and the armbar. From side mount, an americana is probably the easiest. There's a ton more but I'm not going to inundate you.

My fav at the present time is the brabo choke. I'm sure that'll change as it always does.

    Why attacking from side control?

You would be better off attacking from the mount instead.

    Not true!

It is much easier to get reversed in the mount. Holding sidecontrol is a lot easier, and the Americana from sidecontrol is probably the best sub to learn as a beginner as you are not giving up a position for it, and you can do it while maintaining good pressure and base in side control.
