There's a cool thread by @flowoftruth on MMA peeves here: https://forums.sherdog.com/threads/what-are-your-mma-pet-peeves.4190789/.

Got me thinking about things I like about MMA. What's some of yours?

    Seeing fighters improve over time

    Upsets!

Play by play discussion - makes every card fun

    Shoops

Hespect - those who respect themselves & others

Laughing at the crazy stuff and hilarious comments

Fights around the world. In addition to ufc there's a lot of cards throughout the week. Last night I watched Alaska Fight Championship with a few others in a PbP thread and had a blast.

I really like appreciating walkout music under the nervy circumstances I wouldn't usually enjoy... The stupid Lil Wayne song DC used to come out to, the Linkin Park song Maia comes out to, Cranberries song KZ comes out to, some of the more obscure World Music stuff from dudes from Countries I don't know much about... Can really add to the experience of getting
    <{JustBleed}>
    before a fight.

Especially when there's a good crowd supporting said fighter!

Watching the true depth of human capacity. Watching a fighter come back from the brink of unconsciousness to dig deep and turn the tides. It is a testament to the resilience of our species.

    see: Diaz vs Daley
    Hughes vs Trigg
    Smith vs Sell
… and many others that just make your hair stand on end in awe of what you just witnessed.

    Definitely. A few I've loved.
Traditional music from the country of the fighter. Particularly stuff about loving mountain goats or defending honor.
African music that has talking guitar or lots of drums
Urijah Faber, California Love by Tupac & Dre
Anderson Silva, might have been Jay Z
Karolina K., Iggy Pop - The Passenger
Alexa Grasso, M.I.A. Paper Planes (opening riff from Straight to Hell by The Clash)

After a card I often look up walkout songs on an article here think it's called The Walkmen.

Good shiiiit! haha, yeah Aldo's New York is another one, I hate that song cos I heard it far too many times when it came out, but when Aldo comes out to it, it fucks hard.

I liked Tony Ferguson's weird walkout song so much I devised an entire Spotify playlist based on music I heard him train to <Lmaoo>
Got me into a whole load of Dance/Electro/Hip Hop i'd never heard before that bangs at parties <Lmaoo><Lmaoo>

I could make a long list that also applies to other sports, but MMA is completely unique in one respect.

    Its completely unpredictable.

Every year there's things that if someone told me was going to happen at the beginning of the year, I'd say 'No fucking way. That's impossible.'

For example, Chris Weidman's leg breaking in the exact same way Silva's leg broke when they fought 8 years ago? On the first strike that landed of the fight? In-fucking-sane.

Alot of people say their favorite sport is the craziest, but in MMA there's little debate its the absolute craziest of them all and by a wide margin.

The fact high level strikers get knocked out by lower level strikers. Talking all that shit until a wild overhand right lands.

Watching fighters going up a weight class and dominates there. Randy Couture, Dan Henderson and Chael Sonnen is a good example.

Multiple martial arts makes for myriad ways to win, as well as providing all sorts of checks and balances one has to negotiate to get there. No sport I know is so rich with possibilities.

The online MMA community of course, and the interactions with other MMA fans all over. The tradition and remembering those times when your fave MMA related moments happened. Also the feeling of being excited, that tiny bit of anxiousness, and getting fired up when the most anticipated bouts are just days/hours from happening. I also love getting the inside scoops (the stuff that happens outside the cage and broadcast) and breaking news that most ordinary fans have yet to hear about. Pretty unconventional list, but hey that's where the heart is.

Fun thread, Purp. A lot of good replies already.
