In the latest The Hill-HarrisX survey — conducted Jan. 12 and 13 after the newly elected congresswoman called for the U.S. to raise its highest tax rate to 70 percent — a sizable majority of registered voters, 59 percent, supports the concept.

Women support the idea by a 62-38 percent margin. A majority of men back it as well, 55 percent to 45 percent. The proposal is popular in all regions of the country with a majority of Southerners backing it by a 57 to 43 percent margin. Rural voters back it as well, 56 percent to 44 percent.

Increasing the highest tax bracket to 70 percent garners a surprising amount of support among Republican voters. In the Hill-HarrisX poll, 45 percent of GOP voters say they favor it while 55 percent are opposed to it.

Independent voters who were contacted backed the tax idea by a 60 to 40 percent margin while Democratic ones favored it, 71 percent to 29 percent.

Quick, billionaires, have your media outlets tell us she's an insane radical.

It's amazing how progressive Democratic economic policies continue to be more and more popular. It's only a matter of time until the damn breaks and Americans actually start voting that way.

I'm sure all of these major corporations will be fine with this and won't move their businesses overseas. Money isn't that important to mega corporations.

Good. Fuck 'em.

They're already cheating our lower tax rate, let them cheat our higher tax rate, too.

Then we'll slap tariffs on their ass. Tariffs solve everything.

Nate Manganese is a bum.
I didn't say he was a good opinion writer, lol, but that statistical analysis though.

You'll also notice that in several of those headlines, the polls about Trump's candidacy were right and Silver was wrong to not believe them.

Tax the eff out of those corporations that use loopholes and exploit them.

If they move overseas, tax them as foreign corps. , take away any tax incentives they get, tax their products. The government has a lot of power to get corporations to fall in line.

Massive layoffs to follow.

We are the most important market. The US exerts more control over the global economy than any other country. No corp. is going to risk pissing off the US consumer and government.

Has there been a drastic negative impact on the US economy since Trump got tough on China? Why do you think the Feds going after individual corps. is going to be different.

A majority of Californians voted to support a gas tax passed earlier without voter approval and to allow the government to impose any additional taxes in the future without voter approval.

Getting a bunch of rubes to vote against their own interest isn’t hard

Its a dumb poll. Of course if you ask the average deadbeat how he'd like the idea of someone else paying for everything, he'd be for it. I'm surprised its not wider, honestly.

No corporation is going to sacrifice 70% of their money with 0 other bad negative effects.

Of course average folks think the rich should pay more. It's only natural. Let's see how much they like it though, when the rich start pulling their money out of the economy.

People just need to realize that there are no solutions to any of the real problems and to just shut up and live with them.

You do realize this would be the tax rates for individuals, not corporations right ?
