Izzy is 7-0 against the top 7 guys besides Dricus and Sean. Hes beaten everyone else in top 7. Dricus is out with surgery. Only Sean is available really... Below Sean is Dolidze who just lost. Below him are Hermansson and Allen and Sean beat both. Below him is Kelvin who Izzy beat and just won his 1st fight in seemingly years lol. Then you get to the 12-15 guys who Sean already beat or just lost. Or Craig who just made his MW debut.
In a great division Sean wouldnt be getting a shot but MW has been MIDdleweight for a long time and Dricus was supposed to get it if not for surgery and quick turnaround.

I think that while MW is a slightly weaker division than some of the lower weight classes, this looks worse than it is because of Izzy's high level of activity. He gets through those challengers quicker than other champions.

This. He's fortunate Izzy has cleaned out the division. He's fresh blood. I'm not mad at him getting his chance.
Also, I like to see fighters get rewarded for fighting down in rank and keeping things moving. Strickland fought Pereira, Imamov, and Magomedov recently.

Real good look for the belt. Don't let them fight contenders, just scrubs who hasn't fought him yet. Let Weidmen get the next title shot, you know bc he hasn't fought Izzy yet.

Strickland was the only one with the balls to step in a replacement.
The man even fought last month already against a low reward high risk prospect. Plus he already fought twice this year. No ranked fighter today dares to fight more than twice or risk coming injured to a title fight.

There are no better choices. Izzy shouldn't have to sit out and wait for a "worthy" challenger.

There's been a billion threads like this but the guy who started the thread never suggests an alternative opponent while keeping Adesanya on the September PPV card. Strickland is the best choice given the available options.

Sean has more skills than Costa so i highly doubt Izzy will have an easier time with Sean than he did with Costa.
Izzy literally struggled more fighting LW Melvin Guillard than he did against Costa lol

He's won 8 of his last 10 and the only losses were to Poatan and a split to Cannonier.

Outside of ddp, who else deserves the shot? DDP couldn’t do that quick of a turnaround and UFC were going to put Izzy as headliner for the Australia card. They weren’t planning on anyone else to headline it. So if Izzy was always going to be the headliner who do you have him defend his belt against? Bobby knuckles lost recently to Ddp, vetorri lost recently. Can’t give it to Khamzat as he hasn’t beaten a MW in top 15 yet and hasn’t fought in a long time. The only other guy there is a legit argument to make is cannonnier who just whipped vettori in June. I’m not sure he could have turnaround so fast for Australia. But that’s it. If you could legit name someone else worthy of a TS over Strickland with the card coming up in a month go for it.
