Strength help

I took 6 months off of grappling to run a couple of marathons. I expected to lose some weight, size and strength, but I lost more than expected. My strength is weak, my shoots are not explosive, in the clinch I'm getting tossed around, my core strength is pathetic.

I've never done the 5x5 routine, please any help, tips would be appreciated. I also do squats and dl on the same day, is that a bad idea.
 
You dont want to squat and DL on the same day because you want to be lifting heavy and that would be too much work on your body. Check out the new FAQ on here it will tell you almost everything you need to know.
 
definitely dl/squat on different days or you may even choose to do one or the other week to week....depending on the rest of your workouts...

read the stickies...then follow some type of the suggested workouts...bottom line you need to focus on compound lifts and lift heavy...and strength will come over time...
