How do you get out of a straight leg lock when the guy has his legs around your stomach so you cant sit up on him and get mount?

Do you mean a knee bar or ankle lock?

Well what I do is push off his ass with my free foot, it usually slips out in time, be patient while trying to escape. If he has it really tight and you can't get out, just tap no reason in screwing up your leg while just training.

doesnt sound like he has an ankle lock, ankle locks tend to be predicated on your leg being extended which is achieved by your opponent posting in your hip(s) and/or controlling the extension of your knee/knees with his leg(s), if his legs are wrapped around your stomach this distance/extension is not created and there is a similar affect to you having the mount---the lock shouldnt be effective
but maybe i misunderstand you.

The key with leg locks like ankle locks and heel hooks is keeping your toes pointed toward the outside, and your heels pointed toward the other person. In that position he cannot apply the lock and it gives you time to slip your foot out. The best position to get your foot out is lying on your side. In that position you want to try to stay off your back. Definatly dont roll to your stomach because this gives your apponent much more leverage to apply the lock.

Yeah I think he means a kneebar...

It all depends on how quickly you can catch him. I mean, your better off figuring out a way to stop yourself in that position first and foremost.

Having said that, escapes are vital too. If you catch him before he locks down, try to get a hold of his neck, while twisting your leg a little to relieve the pressure.

IF he gets it anyway, TAP OUT. Then analyse what went wrong, and be ready for it next time

Like this but alittle deeper It wasnt hurting my ankle but my leg.

and his legs are on my stomach so I cant get up. (And I know the difference between a knee bar and *leg/Ankle locks)

Sounds like an Achilles lock just done higher up on the calf. Not an expert at getting out of this move except for trying to peel his legs off to the side and then push your leg through while sitting/climbing up on them. Its worked for me few times but don't know if thats the correct escape.

That's not exactly a good idea... there's more than one kind of anklelock.. including ones that are inverted.

alright thanks, I suppose I didnt get out of it because its the 1st time someone really put me into it, so I didnt really look for a way out without just sittin up. So thanks.

Your arms are free. You basically have to sit up on the guy. To buy yourself some time, grab the guy's upper body to prevent him from sitting back and applying leverage to the lock. At the same time, try to extend your foot and point your toes towards you (kind of like pulling on a boot).

Now you need to remove one of his legs from you while sitting up and hopefully taking mount or another dominant top position on him.

both of his legs were around me so when I tried to sit up or anything he just arched squeezed and pushed me away with his legs.

Pump you leg like your hopping to try and get it pushed through. If his legs are on your stomach you can even grab them to pull yourself down to get that leg pushed through. If its an achilles lock that he has high up on your calf its gonna hurt but unless the guy is really strong it won't do any damage. Try not to let him turn to his side. If he's flat on his back he can't bend back farther thatn the floor. If he turns you to his side then he can arch back as far as he wants.

Is this gi or no gi? I do no gi and this lock isn't that hard to get out of with out a gi cause sweaty legs are hard to hold. If its gi. I don't have a bettter way. Sorry.

the pic is of sloppy technique. the gouy going for the lock should be on his side..... like krait said it allows the attacker to extend as far back as he needs.

if the guy had done a real ankle lock and he made it all the way back then it is too late. you have lost the battle.

-prior to that, hold his gi collar to stop him sitting back.
-kick your trapped leg forward, so the grip is too high (sounds like he did that for you)
-push his left foot off of your hip, scoot over and sit on his foot to stop him from recovering.
-keep low, circle around to your left and take mount.

Pull your toes towards you, push the leg out and try to hook your hand around his head.

No you need to push off with the free foot and roll and scramble away. And you have to do it fast. That's the basic move to get out of any lower body submission. Push with the free foot and scramble away quick. If you don't, you'll tap out quicker than you can say WTF.

push the foot that is in your hips out with your elbow or two palms one on top of the other situp to grab the back of his head or neck to pull toward the mounttry to flex your ankle (toes toward shin) to buy some time.

get your free leg and drop the heel to the inside leg(not to strike but to make space)
then slide your body towards your free leg which is now between his legs as well
and you have the angle to use your elbow to push his foot off your stomach
now work to bring your body closer to your legs by moving in and in a circular motion
sitting on his leg that was originally between your legs.
