The timing of stoppages are always a big deal around here. Everyone has an opinion and they vary quite a bit. With a huge card (well, a card with a huge fight) coming up, it made me wonder, what are people's best examples of a fight that went to long, was stopped too late, and was stopped right on time? End result doesn't matter. For example, I thought Edgar/Maynard 2 should have been stopped in the first due to the one sided beating Edgar was taking. The fact that he eventually won is irrelevant. At the time, it looked like a stoppage would have been justified.

    Mine:

Perfect: Chuck vs Rampage was perfect to me. Chuck ate a huge punch and the second he went limp, the ref stepped in. He recovered fast but he was out, however briefly.

    Late: Weidman/Munoz

Munoz took a lot of extra shots. Too many. Way too many.

I'm drawing a blank on a really bad early stoppage. I blame the beer. I'll add one once I decide. Thanks for the input and happy New Year.

Perfect - Hunt vs Struve, Nelson, and Crowbar (I can't spell his name)

Late - Carwin vs Mir, not a Mir fan but holy shit

Early - Danzig getting his fight stopped while he was defending a guillotine, can't remember his opponent.

On a side note why do they call it a submission when a fighter is choked unconscious? It is clearly separating your opponent from consciousness not forcing them to submit. And before anyone say's because it's a submission hold, people do tap to strikes and those are recorded as submissions.

Funnily enough when that happens it's referred to as a "technical submission" even though "technically" he never submitted.

Worst late stoppage was. Brunson vs yoel Romero holy fuck dude took so much unnecessary punishment first time I've ever felt uneasy watching a guy take that many body shots with no ref intervention!

Faber vs Barao was an early stoppage

There's a ton of late stoppages... Weidman vs Munoz was a good example, or Carwin vs Mir, or countless others

There are a lot of easy calls with good stoppages... Rashad vs Chuck was so obvious everybody knew he was out cold. Tim Sylvia's arm was broken against Frank Mir, so he was done for sure. If a fighter is KO'd or injured, it's obvious. But a TKO or a positional situation is a lot harder to determine...

I thought Will Brooks vs Michael Chandler was a weird situation with a good stoppage.

Just like a TKO is a "technical knockout" even though "technically" he wasn't knocked out.

    Same idea.
