Stones Punk in Drublic is no more (update pg1)

Because it comes off as very shallow. Sex Pistols are singing about anti-authority and so does Black Flag. The Clash and Dead Kennedys are very left wing oriented. What does a rich kid sing about that is punk?

Being upper middle class comes off as shallow?

Despite their image, Sex Pistols were created for the sole purpose of selling records. The fact that they were crude and dirty doesnt make them much different than New Kids on the Block.

Minor Threat was singing about not having sex or drinking or smoking. SamIam was emo as fuck.

NoFX whole shtick is basically goofing off and being rude. First youd have to define what "being punk" actually means and why being rude and snotty keeps you out of this exclusive club. Their whole attitude is basically the same as Screeching Weasel, and no one would argue they arent a punk band.

Meh, who the fuck cares.

All I'll say is this;

Bad Religion > Pennywise >Rancid >NOFX

Edit: The Decline was good tho

Rancid is way better than pennywise

sounds like someone had the entire epitapth catalog !! :)

I'm biased cos I saw Pennywise live in their prime. Was a great night. I love Rancid.

I am also Bias rancid is how my path to punkandska began and I lost a shoe the first time I saw pennywise

All great bands I just havent liked nofx since around the time youre wrong came out and I hate being preached at. I cant do anti flag or other bands that want to tell me how to live anymore either and I find that to be so unpunk !!!! . Its hard to describe what punk is man but what it isnt seems much easier

I think its mainly about expressional freedom and going against the grain

I agree. It's punk because it sounds like punk. It evolved from the political punk movement in the 70s. Now it's just music. Anyone (usually young people) who says "that's not what punk is about, man" stfu. As if they know what punk is about just because they've got Never Mind The Bollocks on CD. Hate to say the word hipster but...

Punk past 1980 is just an evolution of the original genre. Who cares what background they came from.

Thats why I always liked ska better. A lot less rules to try and follow and know and a lot less debates about what is and what isnt lol and the shows were usually more fun and less agro too !!

There was a subculture of punks that were against exactly what we're discussing when I was young. My best mate's band were called Barnyard masturbator back in the day. They toured with Sick on the Bus who started the whole movement off. Was all good.

I do like my ska though.

I was just talking about that album at the dispensary last night. I was askin all the old punks how many copies of it they have been through over the years .... Ive gotta be in the double digits on that album with all the times ive lost it or never had it returned to me

Third wave punk ska has been my fave kind of music since the mid 90s and whenever I see that album it makes me feel good inside

Operation Ivy is pretty much the bible of that genre. Had some amazing times listening to it. Remembering them all now with a big smile on my face sitting in the park on a lovely sunny (very rare in my country) day. Thanks bro.

And yes, I went through a few copies too. I'd buy it if I saw it in a second hand music shop even if I had a copy. CDs often got broke/lost/sexually interfered with at that time in my life. It was all fun.

Whoever’s whining about it obviously doesn’t know nofx. When did punk rock become so safe?

It's great. People moaning about NOFX not being punk because they're rich yet getting offended because they say politically incorrect shit.

Punk didn't become safe. People these days just spout common opinion instead of doing research. Some guy with a mohawk on the TV tells them "what punk is all about" and they believe it. Buy a sex Pistols CD and they're like "look at me I'm a punk, everyone these days doesn't know what punk really is. If only they were me..."

I don't even mind Green Day ffs. Dookie and Insomniac were great. They never claimed to be nihilistic punks condemned to growing up in poverty. I don't see a problem.
