I don't think it was wrong at all — how cool is it to see the idiom "I'm so happy I could dance a jig" come to life? But one could see how it could be interpreted as an in-your-face!! move. Especially with that hand gesture at the beginning, perilously close to a "suck THIS!"

Which is why Good Guy Stipe felt bad about it and apologized, which to me made it even more endearing.
