I know, old topic. But relevant again because DC fanboys still think he dominated that fight. The truth is he was getting outgrappled even in his sweet spot, the clinch, and his only success was the inside uppercut and some low kicks. He wasn't getting dominated himself but Stipe was outlanding and outscoring him. Untill DC decided to literally flick his fingers into Stipe's eye(no attempt was made to close his fist and it wasn't even a punch, DC damn sure knows what a proper punching motion is). Then and only then is when he was doing better and landed that sneaky right hand inside which Stipe couldn't spot with his blurry vision.

So I understand perfectly why Stipe felt so entitled to a rematch, a fight he was winning and got cheated out of and he knows it. He will run it back and beat him this time, he just needs to make sure DC is penalized for his dirty tactics for once(pokes, towels etc.)

He wasn't beating DC when he was getting punched in the face.....

    So there's that.

DC was closing the distance and starting the land before the eye poke. However he was still losing the round. It’s going to be a fascinating rematch. Stipe In order to win really needs to keep distance better. He obviously does not want to spend a lot of time in that clinch with DC again. I have no doubt he will train harder than he ever has, and come in more focused than he ever has been for this rematch. I’m excited.

He was technically winning but it wasn't complete domination

His face was pretty marked up before the poke

The reality is, the eyepoke changed the match.

DC fans shit their pants when JJ does it, but when DC does it they act like it’s no big deal.

It was like Conor in the third round against Khabob.

He punched DC in the face more than DC punched him. At an even playing field with no Kung Fu tactics, Stipe was winning the fight everywhere, that's what we have to go by for this rematch.

Pretty sure DC was winning during the walkout and intros tho so it was 1-1 and then DC flattened him

TS is right, but after that, DC turned the fight around.

I have not seen the bout in a while, but I don't recall Stipe rocking DC though.

While DC won on the feet, at least DC will have the advantage of having his wrestling. If he were to get in trouble standing in the rematch.

He was winning but it was based on volume that really wasn't doing any substantial damage to DC at all. Stipe just came out spamming strikes that, for him, didn't seem like they had much power behind them. After a minute or two DC started timing him coming in and landing his own blows, which strangely seemed heavier.

The eye poke happened but I'm pretty sure Stipe recovered before the KO. If it was a major factor Stipe would have surely let us know over and over with all the whining he did. He only talked about how it was a lucky punch, etc. It was a legit KO win IMO. And I was rooting for Stipe in the fight, something about DC's personality rubs me the wrong way.

Volkan Oezdemir was "winning the fight everywhere" for the first two minutes as well. DC is a slow starter, he takes time to figure his opponents out. Stipe just managed to get knocked unconscious before DC even really got going.

Yeah, Stipe was absolutely looking better than DC until the eyepoke. Why do you think DC, who is normally "Mr.Company Man Good Guy Athlete" was so against giving a rematch to the guy that just had 5 title defenses and was considered the goat HW? Brock isn't even a good fight. No actual fan wanted to see that bullshit.

DC has good boxing and obviously powerful hands, but he got lucky. I'm pretty sure we're getting a trilogy with this one because I think DC is going to beat in a more convincing fashion than how he ko'd Stipe.

The advantage that you think he has was a disadvantage in the actual fight. Stipe was the stronger, better man in the clinch and even took DC down.

DC 'figured out' that blinding Stipe was the way to win this fight. Without blurry vision and the psychological impact of the painful poke, Stipe does not get taken out by a sneaky quick punch. That's why this rematch has always needed to happen. DC's win is not legit.
