I think especially at this point in his career Stipe couldn't cut down to 205lbs. but he could fight current LHW champ Jan Blachowicz at a catchweight.

Both are similar fighters, decent striking, decent wrestling, decent ground game but not deadly at any art such as striking (not proven 1 punch KO artists like Ngannou or Hendo) or submissions, just well-rounded guys, the kind of guys who take out elite strikers like Anderson Silva and Izzy.

This would be an interesting match up especially with Stipe coming off of his loss to Big Frank and most likely not getting another title shot rematch from Dana.

Stipe looked lost in there last night, scared, shook, old, whatever you want to call it. I wouldn’t be suprised if he calls it quits.

Makes no sense, what’s in it for Jan?

Stipe is some 40 year old on his way out who just got knocked out and this would only further hold back the LHW division.

He looks smaller than Jan actually
Just a little taller
He could go for LHW
It would drain him at his age, though
Better not, better retire or came up with a better game plan

What would be the point? You know Dana doesn't go for catchweight fights (unless someone misses weight and a catchweight is necessary). Why would he put this fight together? Makes no sense.

Desires aside, Stipe comes in very light, with purpose at under 240.
Jan would literally be just not cutting weight and Stipe would have to drain himself to reach a catch (say, 220).
It's absurd.

Money.

Why did old Anderson keep fighting???

And Jan isn't some KO artist like Big Frank is.

I been watching this sport for awhile, 37 is that turning point age. Anytime after that, but, it just depends on who can have a year or 2 after that and still look in their prime. I think DC has lasted the longest. But, that last fight with Stipe, he looked like he had changed and that was at 40 .

However, Francis is the true Champ. Any Stipe at 38 is dangerous and sometimes some fighters can make other fighters look bad or normal. It is just the way fighting works. All those great fighters that had bad nights as we say, I don't buy that one bit. Their opponent was just that good to make the Champ struggle or even appear to lose. Francis showed he is the Champ last night with no excuses. He beat a Champ to be a Champ. I know this is hard for some people lol.

In that vein would a "prime" Stipe have beaten Frank last night?

No.

If you don’t think Prime Stipe would’ve smacked around Ngannou again last night then you’re even a bigger casual than your match making suggests

Go parrot some UFC promo lines somewhere else

Fighting someone smaller and faster while being older, slower, and poor eyesight?

That's a horrible idea!

Stipe is literally the same age as Jan.

Jan is 11-5 in the UFC.
Stipe is 14-4 in the UFC.

Money is money.

It's what Anderson was doing and getting paid handsomely for.

Make more money fighting a current champ as your last fight(s) than some up and comer and being a stepping stone.
Fair enough.
That's one way to look at it.
