Hey guys,

What are some recommendations for a Kevlar type BJJ Gi? I don't care about the weight, in fact, the heavier the better. I want an armor gi since that is what I wear for Judo and it will help with my prior knowledge of breaking grips.

Thanks.

The proble with armor gis and training is that they will destroy washing machines.

most* judogis are legal in bjj, just wear that

* i haven't kept up with how thick they're making the collars now, so just keep that in mind..

I misread the thread title at first. I thought you wanted to do BJJ in armor, like Kendo armor.

This is what I first thought too. I am disappoint.

I'm sure there will be some group out there that will start doing that and market themselves as "taking jiujitsu back to its roots herderrr" just like when the MMA boom happened all these groups started trying to basically make "MMA in a gi" but tagging on some traditional sounding name (Kudo, Hokuto ryu jiujitsu or whatever, some Hapkido people etc)

I thought of this personally.

Lol

Maybe TS is a accidental genius. BJJ in armor will protect you from all the broken glass and drug needles when doing BJJ in da streetz.

I know right...I think I stumbled on something great Haha

It shall start from jousting and continue to grappling in full armor!

I'll call it metal jitsu!

It's funny that you mention hokutoryu jiujitsu since it's a Finnish style of jiujitsu which was established in 1992 according to wikipedia. Not exactly a child of the MMA boom.

They teach it at my gym, but I've never tried it. Seems to be a lot self defense stuff (disarming, pressure points, etc.), mediocre striking and a bit of ground stuff. Hokutoryu brown and black belts typically get tooled by experienced white belts in BJJ. Then there's the borderline ridiculous stuff like sword fighting and using batons. I saw one black belt (they give them away like candy) slice his hand ope when trying to do a cool draw with a real sword. Blood went everywhere, had to do physical therapy to regain motor function and permanently lost some feeling in his fingers.

Don't know why I did a whole ramble, but there you have it.

Lol. We just need something to protect us from the lava all over the place.

Any rant about tma guys cutting themselves on swords is fine by me!

Cool well I stand corrected. I saw their demo vids on Youtube and assumed it was just another Johnny Come Lately "MMA in a gi" group. I think Gongkwon Yusul is like that but I ain't even mad. I'd be down for an "MMA in a gi" art as I enjoy both TMA (traditions, philosophies, history etc) and combat sport (realistic training, resistant training, effectiveness).
