Does anyone have any 1st hand experience with the gear? My limited knowledge tells me that roids is primarily used for recovery so that one can workout with more intensity (and I guess frequency). How does it compare with stuff like creatine?

I do not have first hand experience with steroids (if I did I would hope to be putting up better numbers than I do) but I would hasten to suggest there is no comparison to creatine, or anything you can readily purchase from the shops.

Yes. Ran a few cycles when I was about 20. Dbol/Deca/TestE/Anastrozole. Then ran another that was Test Prop/Tren Ace/Winny/Anastrozole. Ran a few others but they were really shitty and stupid. I also got sold fake PCT once and had to end up getting gyno taken out, not nearly as bad as people make it out to be, don't even have a scar anymore.
 
I guess I didn't answer your questions. Creaitine is shit for one, two, yes, you very rarely get really sore after a workout if you are on gear. No matter how good the workout is you almost always feel rejuvenated and ready to go the next day. Also it's really easy to get get motivated to go to the gym when you are getting gains instantly and setting new PR's every week.
 
The thing that puts me off using, is it just seems so bloody confusing to me. Take x for this, take xx to counter some of the side effects of x, take xxx and so on. I could be way off, but that's how it seems to me.

Not really hard if you do the research, usually only need one PCT unless you are running an advanced 16-20 week cycle which you wouldn't be taking unless you were really into bodybuilding comps. Usually I recommend people to just run a Test cycle their first time to see how their body reacts to it.
