Stephen King creates diversity controversy

Basically he said skin color shouldn't be factored into awards.

He's being heavily criticized for not taking race into account, even by other famous authors and moderately influential people, and there are plenty of rebuttals that would make Sherdoggers proud.

King is literally Hitler!

So the assumption is that all white men are racist, homophobes and transphobes?

Just imagine if the SJW Nazis thats run everything now were in charge of the Renaissance thru the Romantic Period? We would not who Da Vinci thru Beethoven was.

When they finally took control, this is what happened to 'the arts':

That’s the thing about being a member of the Cult of Woke like King is, you stray from their insane dogma on ONE little thing, you are still a blasphemous heretic that must be cast out.

suck on it King
Bro, you see all the """white guys"""" that are giving him flack?<Lmaoo> Schlomo is heated!

I didn't look at the thread.

But he's wrong in saying that things falling under the umbrella of diversity aren't relevant to the artistic value itself. A film that is unrealistically whitewashed will lose some level of persuasiveness and realism compared to a depiction that accurate mirrors real life. Likewise, a depiction of stories involving persons of color may yield insights and touch on themes that won't appear similarly in an all-white depiction of a similar plot.

But, no, you're right that "an acting performance isn't good, simply because a woman, POC, or LGBTQ person is performing." If someone is saying that, they are wrong and very stupid.

Hold on when did anyone say the films themselves didn't have enough diversity? I thought this whole thing was about the race of the directors?

Kings points was the race of the directors has nothing to do with the quality of the movie and he is right.

First sensible statement I've seen from a Trump hater on Twitter.

So the assumption is that all (straight) white men are homophobes?

More like Misandrists.

It's the most popular news on many media websites, so kind of hard to ignore. If you want to bitch about this receiving publicity then you should blame the media, which has made a big deal of it.

The media is well aware that outrage porn sells. By ignoring a story that amounts to a handful of tweets, you can help make this go away. Or, you can be outraged that someone on twitter said something and spread those links around.

Anyway this is just another example of a "woke person" losing their "woke" privileges after saying something sensible (see JK Rowling recently). Seems to be a pattern.

Less and less people want to associate themselves with that crap, because it's a losing game.

No one is losing anything over this. No one will remember this story in a few weeks. Feel free to bump and prove me wrong if King suffers anything more than random twitter responses.

Stephen King is an amazing author. That's as far as his credibility goes and I wish all these "celebrities" would realize They aren't going to change the world.

Should the issue of diversity be a factor in ANY award?

No. Merit should be the only factor.

Because we've definitely never seen anyone lose anything over a few off-handed remarks recently, such as their job.

Stephen King won't suffer much, because there's really nothing anyone can do about him. He has already cemented his legacy. The same wouldn't necessarily apply to someone who occupied a less independent position.

But then you'd have the cries of "employers have the right to protect their brand and fire anybody" and "free speech has consequences" from the hordes of so-called "pro-worker", "pro-free speech" left-wingers, today turned into regressive corporate drones.

When their plot to throw their weight around does not succeed, the narrative is "well, who cares, it's just Twitter", and when somebody does have their life ruined, the narrative is "he deserved it, there are consequences to your words, corporations need to protect their interests, blah blah".

In every such scenario you're going to see the same pretenders apologizing for that type of behaviour, in whatever way they can. It is weak and predictable at this point.

They should have a separate award for the minorities.

Instead of financing more "diverse" films, they want the awards to curve their picks to accommodate diversity. Effectively pushing the blame onto the Oscars. They want to have their cake and eat it too.

The Oscar's and all them award giving shows are all bullshit anyway. Most of those awards are bribed and payed for...Hollyweird is all fabricated nonsense that should burn down like the shit place it is
