    Do they only write tickets?
    Are they ever cordial?
    Do they ever cut breaks?

In my experience all they do is set up speed traps. They are always d-bags and they never cut anyone a break. I talked to a city cop who said they are so soulless they would write their own mother a ticket.

No, they investigate crimes and sometimes show up if you call 911.

All cops are pricks. There is no difference.

When I was 21 I had 2 State Troopers let me off on a DWI (which I totally deserved) because I trained BJJ and do MMA and was all beat up looking from sparring. That being said it was a great life lesson because I never and will never drive drunk again.

They deal with drug traffickers and small towns that don't have local cops depend on them and guns.

    They are the state police

I've been pulled over by 3 state troopers.

2 were cordial, 1 was a fucking dickhead, and all 3 gave tickets.

The first 2 I deserved, I was speeding a bit and they caught me. Fair enough. My bad. The 3rd was just a couple months ago and he claimed I was "following too close".... even though I was nowhere near him and he was going about 40 in a 65. He was either intentionally baiting me into following too closely, or the more likely scenario is that he thought I was alone in the carpool lane. However, my brother was in the passenger seat reclined taking a nap.

Regardless of why he pulled me over, after he did he tried to provoke me into an argument the entire time. VERY confrontational and aggressive. I shut my mouth and took it at first until I had finally had enough and told him how fucking slow he was going and asked him to just give me my ticket and be on his way rather than lecture me for something I didn't do.

He then started acting like a toddler, said "You don't have a plate on the front of your car do you?!" and marched back to his car with the ticket he had already written. I assumed he was adding to the ticket, but instead he just sat there for like 10 minutes then came back and gave me the original ticket and left.

I was fucking furious. Not about the ticket, but about his douchiness and ego. The guy was no older than 25, about 5 foot 5 and clearly had a Napoleon complex or something because he was a true asshole. Naturally the complaint I filed was promptly ignored and they said proper procedure was followed. Way to protect and serve by driving half the speed limit then pulling people over who are in no way endangering anyone around them.

I do think speaking in total generalities, they are a little more soulless than your typical city cop. Their jurisdiction is pavement - they pretty much sit on the highway all day and write speeding tickets, hoping to maybe catch someone with a warrant or a drug stash on them. They're dealing with perps that are not from the area they are patrolling, just passing through.

Your city cop is being called to various places, stopping in at this place or that and building a bit of a repoire with the community...trying to help out the place he often calls home himself.

Just my perception. I know a couple of city cops and one trooper.

I almost hit a state trooper that was parked on the side of the road while speeding. He pulled me over and told me my headlight was out before heading back to his vehicle to run my plates. When he came back he gave me a free pass to show any other cops if I got pulled over for having a headlight out and sent me on my way without so much as mentioning the fact that I was speeding and almost hit him.

Alright, I'll add my own trooper story. Driving down the highway and this trooper has some guy pulled over. It's a pretty busy time of day and the speed limit was 55 or 65.

As we drive by him leaning over and talking to the driver he has pulled over, I honk my horn, the cop looks up, and my friend in the front passenger seat flips him off. We both laugh and don't think anything of it. About 3 minutes later I look in my rear view and there is a cop car on my ass almost touching my bumper. He's got his lights on of course. He pulls me over and just starts threatening us, saying things like he could pull me out of the car right there and "stomp my fucking guts out". He didn't actually scare me but I really wasn't gonna talk back to him at this point. He chewed us out for like 5 minutes and then left without giving me any kind of ticket. He never asked for license or registration he just pulled me over to rage.

This fucking guy must have stopped what he was doing with the other guy he pulled over immediately when we flipped him off and driven like 100 mph to catch up with us. lol

I've been only pulled over by a State Trooper once. He was professional (I guess), but he did write me a ticket. I was going 18 over, so I deserved it.

When talking with people about being pulled over I've never heard a story where someone got let off a ticket by a Statey.

I prefer them. They tend to be more professional that local guys. I did get a ticket the one time a state cop pulled me over, but he was fast and polite whereas in dealings I've had with sheriffs (in rural Indiana), they were always absolute dicks. They went out of their way to be rude and unhelpful, and I'm always very respectful to law enforcement. The state cops mostly just do their jobs.

I have been pulled over maybe 5 times in 13 years of driving. Only got one speeding ticket from it. I did however get a jaywalking ticket last year. It was total bullshit but what can you do?

I saw my dad do it 3 times when I was younger. I still don't know how he did it. Here's how all 3 happened. Trooper pulls us over for speeding. My dad reaches under the seat and puts his pistol on the dash. Trooper see's it and draws his gun, telling my dad to get out of the car. They start talking, minutes go by and they're still talking. Then you hear them talking about fishing, hunting or the military. A ridiculous amount of time goes by and my dad is back in the car without a ticket and we're on the road again.

Each stop probably took no less than 45 minutes but he'd get off free pretty much every time. I think 5 minutes were about why he got stopped and the other 40 were just two guys shooting the shit on the side of the road. My grandpa also went his entire life without getting a ticket by talking his way out of them. That skill didn't get passed down to me :icon_sad:

I've only been pulled over by state troopers. I don't really speed in the city, so if I get caught speeding, it's usually in the middle of nowhere at three in the morning. Don't see any cars for miles and miles, and then get pulled over.

That said, I've never gotten a ticket. It's just annoying as fuck to get pulled over for speeding when there is literally not another vehicle for miles in either direction.

It depends on what state. Within state, it even depends on what areas. NYS Police, for example, are a full service police agency in rural areas. In urban and suburban areas, they only do highway patrol.
