I'm 16, 6'0", 185lbs, and far too weak. I've done lifting with compounds and olympic lifts for a while, but never just a straight up linear progression program such as SS. I'll be doing the practical programming variation of SS, from the Starting Strength Wiki. I will only be able to lift steadily for 4 more months, since that's when the wrestling season starts. I will be editing the posts to contain one week of workouts, then starting a new post.

WEEK ONE

5RMs: START CURRENT GOAL

Bench 145 145 225

Squat 205 205 315

Deadlift 265 265 365

8/1/11 DAY ONE (BW 187-189)

Squat: 2x5 @ 45, 1x5 @ 95, 3x5 @135
Felt easy, recorded my form with phone, looked great. Deep, good arch, head position, etc. I feel as though I might be breaking at my knees too soon. Will attempt to remedy on wednesday.

Bench: 2x5 @ 45, 3x5 @ 95.
Felt easy as well, but I feel that I'm not using leg drive at all. Will watch some videos and fix friday.

Chin-ups: 1x9 @ BW, 1x8 @ BW, 1x6 @ BW
Felt very hard. My technique seems inconsistent and choppy. I prefer pull ups even though I can't do as many. Looking forward to seeing higher numbers however.

8/3/11 DAY TWO

Squat: 2x5 @ 45, 1x5 @ 95, 3x5 @ 145
Again, felt easy. Form was good.

Press: 2x5 @ 45, 3x5 @ 65
Felt easy, no problems.

Deadlift: 1x5 @ 40kg, 1x5 @ 60k, 1x5 @ 80kg
Really easy weight, but still felt terrible on account of some type of tension in my mid to upper back. It hurts when I bend my neck down and when I do deadlifts. Doesn't bother me in squats, good mornings, anything else.

8/5/11 DAY THREE

Got kicked out of my weight room for not being 18. Sucks.

Welcome to the logs!

SS is a great program. And you're starting young!

Best of luck!

Thank you! I've actually been on these forums since I was around 14, but didn't do a solid program with linear progression until now. I'm starting pretty low, and hope to hit my goals within 6-10 weeks.

After a long conversation over at StevenH's training log, I've decided to return to olympic lifts with Glenn Pendlay's beginner program. This is still linear progression and I'll still be squatting, benching, and pulling. I will start monday.

DAY FOUR (8/8/11)

Snatch: 10x1 @ 40kg
Starting low so I can progress around 5-10kg a week, hopefully getting around 70 before I have to microload or reset.

Cln. Pull + H. Clean: 5x(2+1) @ 50kg
Also felt easy, will see how a full C&J feels tomorrow.

Push Press: 3x5 @ 95 lbs
Was harder than expected, but I think I was just tired from not enough rest between sets.

Back Squat: 3x5 @ 155
Continued with SS weight, hopefully will get to around 225 before having to microload or reset.

Fun stuff: Pull ups and push ups alternated

DAY FIVE (8/10/11):

Snatch Pull + Hang Snatch: 5x(2+1) @ 40kg
Again, very easy. Didn't see a need to increase weight due to it being a harder variation of the exercise.

Clean and Jerk: 10x1 @ 60kg
Felt really easy, feeling very optimistic about hitting high weights with this, hopefully at least 85 kg.

Front squat: 3x3 @ 135lbs
Felt great as well, hoping to hit 185 before I have to reset or microload.

Extra: DB rows, 3x10 @ 55 lb dumbbell
Pushups, 3x10.

Was feeling kind of lazy, will do barbell bench and pull ups Friday.

DAY FIVE (8/12/11):

Today as I headed up to the front door, I was greeted by the property manager of the high school. He told me that I can no longer lift at the school because if I were to enroll there at any point, they'd have legal problems with my current school.

Fuckin' bullshit. I can no longer lift because some idiot manager thinks I might enroll in a catholic school without a wrestling team.

Good luck on the logs. Your only two years older than me and thirty pounds heavier so you'll be decent competition in the long run

Thanks, I enjoy competition. I'll be sure to follow your log.

Kind of infuriated with this recruiting thing. Need to find either another gym or stir up enough trouble with the two schools that they let me back in.

Athletic director of the school I lift at hasn't emailed me back yet. Will likely lose a shitload of time due to this bull.

Going to call the dude tomorrow and if I don't get a reply I'm writing to my local newspaper, gonna make this a real shitstorm. Determined to get back in there.
