"Stars" can handle losses and still be big draws.. Hype trains not as much.

I would say this is a decent measure of whether somebody is a true 'star,' or whether they are a 'hype-train.' Stars have a fan base, they have earned respect for the rest of their career. I was a Barrera fan in Boxing.. He was given the loss to Morales in the first fight, but I was pretty sure he won. Anyways, I was always a Barrera fan. Even after he lost, which he did a few times. Stars never stop being stars, they just get to a point where people want to see them retire because they are disrespecting their legacy.

Fedor is a star.

Andy is a star.

Tyson was a star.

Conor is........................... What is Conor? If he gets smoked by Diaz, is his light put out? Is the ride done? If so, hype-train. I still think a rematch with Aldo would sell ok, but nothing like before.

the hype train is as good as the audience is gullible.

conor will draw big numbers no matter what. he's not running on an undefeated streak or anything like that. everyone knows he can lose and has lost. he's one of the most exciting fighters in and out of the octagon so i don't see why he would stop being a big draw even if he lost. even if he loses to nate, he's still the featherweight champion right now.

he can brush off his loss just like bj penn did. well may not just like, but similar to.

the narrative wouldn't be "oh he's a loser" it would be "he has huge balls to go out of his weight to fight for a second belt and he came up short after his opponent pulled out and he fought someone on "

Yeah, Conor isn't going to lose a lot of fans should he lose this fight. Maybe the malcontents that were illogical enough to believe he could beat anyone at any weight, but they aren't really fans anyway. He brings energy to the cage.

Fedor and Anderoid are big draws... where?

They aren't really BIG draws anymore

I came to see you slam Honda but I'm leaving disappointed..

Even if Conor McGregor were to lose, he'd still be Conor McGregor.

And that's an elite fighter with unique movement, arguably the best striking in the game, power, an iron chin, athleticism, unbreakable mental strength against adversity, ever-improving grappling skills, a fighting style as aggressive as anyone in MMA history, while also being a great counterstriker. And then there's the things outside the cage: his work ethic, his unique approach to the fight game, his charisma, and his star quality.

This isn't about Honda?

Conor lost before, he's not a hype train, he's the biggest star we've ever had. (Bar Lesnar)

Wouldn't hype train indicate he isn't good? That he didn't work his way up, knock out the #1 ranked fighter in the world, and become champion?

You've got it completely backwards. Fedor and Anderson were shit draws; had they lost their respective belts they'd fade into obscurity immediately because no one gave a shit about them beyond their long title reigns. McGregor is someone who could lose his next fight and still be a star, because winning is at best half of what's making him as big as he is. Tyson was also an intense personality, so he was also destined to be a star beyond his ability to fight.

Just stop calling Conor a hype, he dispatched the P4P fighter in 13 fucking seconds..
And destroyed the best wressler in his "former" division in 2 rounds.
And went up in wait straight after he got his title...

People are asking for years to see champ vs champ fights,
well now one guy moves up instantly without wasting time and it's still not good enough.
It's not Conor fault the brazilians have brittle bones and pull out on a few days notice, and that we get a fan friendly fight now.

no. some fighters are more deserving of their trains than others. Hype is a word that is defined.
