In what way do you mean effect you differently?
In terms of satiety? Yes, the potatoes will be more filling.
In terms of body composition? Not really if calories are equal.
In terms of health? Maybe, the nutrient/phytochemical content is probably higher in plant based foods.
In terms of caloric expenditure? The table sugar, because of it's fructose content, may raise the metabolic rate more so - but the effects are probably negligible.
I could go on... it's a loaded question.
