What do you guys think about these shorts? For those who are not familiar with them they are grappling/fight shorts with a material in the crotch that makes your skin stick to it when you sweat.....so your arm gets stuck when your opponent goes for an arm bar.

I guess they are good to use, but terrible to be used against you....so does that make it fair game? or cheating?

I personally think that they will be illegal in BJJ very shortly. As soon as some top name Brazilian gets his arm broken bc he couldn't pull out of an arm bar....they will be banned from competition.

Thoughts??

I think it's cheating if you get out of an armbar because of sweat. If your technique allows you to get caught in an armbar, then you got caught in an armbar. I think these shorts just keep you honest.

IMO it should be illegal, that's like having extra grip on your gi pants crotch area. Especially for no-gi, where the whole point of it is that you are grappling without theassistance of friction from clothing. I'm not sure how effective those shorts are first hand though.

I think anything in the crotch that makes skin stick to it should be banned...It's bad for the sport...And the crotch.

I have no experience with them either. I actually just heard about them this weekend. I heard that if you are standing in someones open guard and he wraps his legs around your legs it can rip out your leg hair and it hurts like a bitch.

HAHAHA! That's hilarious, no one in my gym has these ones. I should get a pair to piss people off. :icon_twis

Bunch of guys have these at my school. I doubt they really make any difference at all. Just a gimmick.

They don't make a difference at all. They do nothing. I have a pair, and have rolled with other people wearing them. We experimented a lot with pulling out of arm bars just to see if there is a difference and there isn't. Your arm gets stuck to the panels but the panels just get pulled back when you pull your arm out. There is nothing keeping the panels stuck to the groin of the person wearing them. Get what I'm saying? Its hard to express through writing, you kind of have to see and experience it to understand what I'm trying to say.

There is no substitute proper technique

the way i see it if you're in an armbar you already fucked up, and don't deserve any help from sweat to escape

I got a pair, don't notice a real advantage, they are nice shorts however.

won't it look a little strange when two dudes will be going for an ankle lock submission on each other and their crotches stick together and they can't get them unstuck? It may look something like this...
