Hey guys today I learned the basics of the spider gaurd wow i love it. We were doing a drill where all we had to do was maintain our spider gaurd for 30 seconds at first I had a problem keeping him away but then i started to shift my body around using the leg on his hips and i noticed this tended to keep them off ballance. Later on we worked armbars, triangles, omoplatas, and cross collar chokes.

Should i be wiggling around when im at the bottem of a spider gaurd?

Do yall have any tips for someone who is completely new to the spider gaurd?

Do yall have any links to tutorials for spidergaurd related stuff?

Are there any good books/dvds on the subject out?

Thanks guys i think i found my new favorite gaurd/move

just try and keep them as unbalanced as possible shift their upper body one way while shifting their lower body another

I don't know about the rest of you guys but I hit triangles real easy from spider guard.

Keep your butt off the floor so your hips can swivel easily.

Make sure you're pushing with your feet on his biceps and pulling with your hands to keep him locked in tight.

Aim to keep one of your legs extended at all times while bringing his opposite arm towards you (almost making hime stand perpendicular to you).

I got alot of triangles but i also was shocked. when our coach showed us the cross collar choke because these guys are so worried about the triangle/ armbar/ omo plata that they will be trying to get there elbow back in and thats when i go for the cross collar lapel choke but as i stated above it was my first try with the spider gaurd. Its pretty awesome.

I don't think you are really describing spider guard if you are keeping your feet on the hips and doing collar chokes. That's just ordinary open guard.

I like to build up a little momentum when I swing my hips back and forth so that way when I go for the sweep or a sub it's super strong, like what tinguinha teaches.
