So right before im about to attack im sittin there thinkin and get waled on. Any ideas on how to fix this? Cause im getting beat down by not hitting.

Toughen up, bud. Take a look at your own quote in your profile.
If you tap him on the forehead, it's barely going to hurt him.

I had the same problem. I really didn't want to hurt people.

But this in perspective: Can you take a few hits? When you get beat up do you blame the other guy? No. Guess what? He feels the same way.

LMAO... no shit dude. Maybe if you hit the other guy, life wouldn't be better if you aren't boxing!

Take it up the ass...

Just assert your dominance over him. This is a war of male pride.

Dude, that's kinda funny, because I have always hated streetfights and wanted out and felt really uncomfortable, but sparring.......no prob.

Hey, he came to class, he put on the headgear, he put on the gloves, he put in the mouthpiece, he put on the cup, he warmed up, and he walked out on the floor. He expects to get hit, hit him. This is a mental block left over from when your mom told you over and over, "don't hit!", but this is not a violent assault on an innocent person aimed at victimizing them in a cowardly way! This is two willing competitors/training partners helping each other improve...
Go for it.

Haha, I've always been the same way.

i had the same problem. untill i started sparring with one of my buddies i knew (away from boxing) and he helped me calm down and stuff. try sparring with a good buddy or something, it helped me.

Seems to me your just timid man, that'll get better with time. Look at it as a sport, thats all.
good luck

take some time to calm yourself down before starting, get your head straight, and talk to your partner, make sure he is feeling okay and wants to go, and assure yourself that he is of equal or greater skill than you. There is nothing wrong with not wanting to wail on someone who isn't as good as you.

i think some ppl are afraid of hitting there opponent because the feel they might end up gettin beaten harder by there more skilled opponent, however this is stupid, you'll learn so much moore by actually having to defend yourself and i find it frustrating to spar someone who never are "on you" someone that just hit like 1-2 cm in front of my face, i wont learn muh and my opponent sure wont...just BRING IT ON!!! /the guy in a weehlchair in family guy

I dont have a problem getting hit, nor do I freak out, im actually to calm if you ask me and that might be a part of the problem.
I have no problem punching someone in a street fight, but when it comes time to punch a friend in the face its harder. Another thing is that when I first started sparring every time I tryed to hit someone I got hit back alot. That might have something to do with it.
