South Padre Island, worth it or not?

Me and the girl wanted to go on a beach vacation, but we were looking at doing like a 4k-5k trip, which is pretty expensive for a broke philosopher like me.

South Padre Island is a short drive away, and I was wondering if it was worth it as quick three night trip on the cheap. I've seen a bit of the beaches and they aren't beautiful or anything but if you're craving the beach I figure it could work out.

I'm interested mostly in the food options and the hotel options - those types of amenities. And if South Padre is actual shit - maybe Galveston is a better bet.

the water is blue tho, unlike the brownish brackish water in Galveston or corpus

none that I found last time we were there. I was pretty disappointed over all with the food choices. will search a bit more this time but it's a small island so will hit up that brewery for sure and cook at the house on the balcony

Was wanting to spend about $1000 tops on three nights, for a budget version of the 5k trip --

Just want to have some kind of trip soon that's in driving distance. If Galveston is better amenitity wise I'll go there.

Galveston is probably better in terms of food choice but the beaches are terrible.

I haven’t been in a really really long time but used to spring break there a few times.

Between Galveston,Corpus and Padre I would choose padre first, corpus second and Galveston last.

for beaches.

Benefit of Padre Is it’s a short trip to Brownsville, park and walk across to Matamoros for nightlife.

stay on the main drag at night though.

Thoughts?

I've been there exactly 16 times. For a short cost effective trip it's good

I personally like it way better than those glitzy florida beaches (they give off a fake over commercialized vibe and it has no feel, it's basically a giant swimming pool).

SPI is actually a real natural beach. You will have large adbundace of wildlife, real sands dunes, seaweed/vegetation on the coast.

Snobs will say it's not pretty but what they think is pretty is a joke (staring at a giant flat land swimming pool with no wildlife, no vegetation, and nothing but highrises is gross)
