hey guys,

Been kickboxing for about 8 months now. Recently my wrists have been feeling sore. I don't feel pain or soreness until I specifically stretch a specific tendon I guess.

Its like picking up a pot of water by the handle, my wrists feel sore and that they might give in to dropping the pot. Or trying to lift the edge of your desk up. I'm guessing they're sore from hitting bags and pads.

Any ideas on recuperation aside from rest? Thanks

Are you aligning everything properly when you punch?

maybe try taping your wrists over the hand wraps for more support. also check your form when throwing hooks lots of people hurt their wrists/shoulders from poor hooking technique

yeah I used to cane my shoulder throwing hooks until I changed to the 'thumb up' hook technique. Another bad habit I had was that I'd let my wrist move upwards as I punched.

Sounds like your form IS off unless you got that from other chronic activities. Did you punch with an open hand and pull your thumb back?

Heat, massage, ice, tape it (thumb tucked in) and use your other hand more in that order.

When you tape your hands for class, see if you can use a splint to tape to your hand and wrist stiff.

You are probably holding your fist wrong. Slightly bend it down and out, aligning your two inside knuckles with your forearm.

I had the same problem with my lead hand and this corrected it.

While trying to "align" your punches sounds good, the fact that a guy is trying to make you miss will mean that you don't always land punches 100% properly. Certainly, when hitting the bags or pads, that should be the goal. Some over-use injuries to the hands, knuckles, and wrists is to be expected when you spend hours every day punching things. Make sure you are wrapping your hands and wrists properly, and place extra support over sore spots. Ice is great for after training.

mine hurt like shit went i first started boxing. its either your girly wrists, or you're landing your punches awry.
