I read that it has to do with how the hand extends when it's relaxed because of the glove. The Pride Glove has the fighter's hands clasp while the UFC glove makes the fingers spread out when the hand is relaxed.

I seem to remember a rash of pauses due to gloves needing to be repositioned in Pride.

Back then the UFC and PRIDE didn't have 2-3 cards every month. More fights means more eye pokes and why eye pokes seem to be happening more often.
