Basically in the overeem fight his hands were at low chest level and he got caught a couple times including the knockdown. This tendency to drop his hands is not just because Overeem was running.

Take his fight with JDS for instance. What I see Miocic do sometimes when he is in exchanges, is that when he punches he doesnt return his hand in a straight line back into guard the way you are taught in boxing. Alot of the time his hand goes to waist level then back up again into guard. I have also noticed that when he throws the 1-2, he chambers his cross at waist level like a karateka. This leaves him open to the left hook. You can see this if you pause at 3:25 and 3:23 of the first round. It seems as though he cares more about getting the most follow through in his punches, even if it compromises his defense. This happens more often the more aggressive he is in a striking exchange.

In his fight for the title Werdum closed the distance with a 1-2. Miocic parries the jab with his rear hand and tries to back up but werdum comes over the top with the cross, which lands because Miocics lead hand is low and reaching for the punch. Basically you are not supposed to reach for punches because it is very easy to go over or around your outstretched arms.

Refreshing knowledgeable thread ts. I cant be on sherdog then can i? Is this real life? But honestly i agree with your points and noticed in his mark hunt fight(which he clearly didnt want to be on the feet for) his hands where not properly adjusted after each punch he threw and was confident he was going to get caught. Better tighten up that d before 220 or its #andnew

Yah because Ngannou is like a prime Ali in there?

It's MMA I'd say 90% would get eaten alive by boxers

I think the point he’s trying to make is you DON’T have to have world championship boxing to get a good hit in on Stipe, and few fighters in the sport hit as hard as Ngannou does....

Luckily this won't matter bc he'll smother Ngannou with his wrestling until he's tired enough to let his hands go.

I agree with this but he only has a few while ngannou has many. He mostly throws long looping punches. If stipe throws straight he can catch him.

Ngannou finna come in that opening with some thunder

RIP Stipe

Miocic was a wrestler long, long before he ever laced up a glove. I suspect a lower hand position is sort of default with him because of that.

Now tell us about Ngannou's technical flaws...

Stipe will survive the first couple of rounds with his wrestling, Francis will gas, Stipe will finish the fight any way he wants.

Ngannou squares up at times. He doesn’t have great footwork either.

But at HW with 4oz gloves, either guy can win. Just the marginal mistakes are unforgiving.

Stipe is hittable but so is Francis.

We both are smartasses, you do see what he's saying in his analysis of ONE fight right? And truthfully, Stipe has horrible defense, but he has heart, grit, and determination. Kinda makes up for it. We dont know shit about Ngannou except that he has power.

Yeah I get what he's saying but this also isn't straight boxing, Stipe might be a little rough round the edges but he knows when its time to impregnate a leg (mark hunt fight) and he knows when he's in there with chinny old timers (Reem and Andrei)
Get ready boys this is gonna be an MMA masterclass
