Some new Rafa Mendes No-Gi Rolling

That transition at the very end was interesting. Looks like he went for a Peruvian and the guy rolled into a arm lock.

Is it me or does the black guy have kind of an odd open guard. I'm a white belt so I probably don't fully understand the more complicated open guards but it looked like he left himself open several times to simple passes.

he looked good to me tbh, soem very since sweep attempts and transitions rafa is just on a different level

Black Guy rolling with him is Darrson Hemmings he's a purple belt. A good one to No Gi Pan Am's light feather champ.

Drew, you would have enjoyed seeing Rafa using the darce on the weekend.

Darson put the gi on for Abu Dhabi trials on the weekend. Looked pretty solid, lost to Michael Tremblay in the absolute.

i can't imagine rolling with rafa and not having a grin on my face the whole time. this guy seems to be enjoying the experience quite a bit as well. it must be so awesome to roll with a guy that's the absolute best in the world in his weight division.

Yeah Rafa looked awesome watching him and Gui roll Gi/Nogi all weekend. Tango had a good roll w/ Gui...

It was fun just watching them roll through everyone...

Tango and I had a light roll too, just for fun.

Aren't you SD folks going to write up the seminar details? Or was it basically the same material I wrote up earlier?

IDK I guess I could, or maybe Tango will and I could add to his.

Basically Gi day was leg drags and back takes.

No gi day was kimura-grip and berimbolo.

With some good questions at the end. Where Rafa showed his version of armdrag, a crazy omoplata, and how him and Gui pull on the arm when people turtle.

Care to share any details on the no gi berimbolo? Do they grab the hip instead of the belt to pull the opponent down? Any leg lock defense tips?

(Also interested in the arm drag and turtle stuff, obviously.)

I've seen a lot of people grab the wrist.

I'd love to see what Tango an BJJAZ thought about some of the techniques they saw.

Yeah I will try and write something up tomorrow when I'm not at work....

Yeah, BJJAZ is good. It was awesome getting to roll with him. Thanks for showing me that berimbolo variation too.

Gui Mendes is out of this world; his pressure is unreal. I felt like shit after rolling with him, but in a good way (if that makes sense).

I'll definitely be doing a write up. I took a lot of notes, which I finished transcribing last night.

Thanks man, hope that berimbolo variation can work for you sometimes!

Glad you guys enjoyed the seminar, they are always good.
