Just wanted to share some sparring clips with mma/safety gloves on (just standup). During the last 3 weeks of training camp, I have my fighters switch to the lil gloves to get used to the feeling of smaller gloves. Even outside of a fight camp we spar like this every now and then. Nothing too hard just a nice controlled spar session. Anybody else down with some lil glove sparring??

These vids were taken back in May when the taller fella was getting prepared for his 5th pro fight. Oh and yes i know their hands are low lol

Should have posted the whole round! But yeah I gotta agree with the whole defense is different with small gloves on. You ever had a cut happen? Or someone evey accidentally get KO'd with small gloves?

We used to do a lot of small glove sparring that was light on the striking, heavy on the TD and subs. As a striker this drove me nuts.

I'm a big fan of this kind of sparring. At my gym sometimes we even go hard with the MMA sparring gloves. I've definitely felt a difference with both defense and offense when wearing smaller gloves. Aside from having less coverage (making shelling up less viable), MMA gloves also feel weird when you're throwing punches because there's no weight on them.

I fought on BKB 2, which had tiny little gloves so I trained boxing with MMA gloves for that one. Which feels even more awkward to me than regular MMA sparring with little gloves.

Haha yeah the big fella in those videos used to hate it as well, but it has done wonders for his overall wrassling and no he loves it cause he's so hard to takedown.

we spar with mma gloves, i prefer it and i'm a total striker. I land cleaner and my active defense does better. :) but we don't bop the heads off each other either like

That's a good point, if you look at it like a tdd drill then it's great!

I saw an interview a few months back with some top level guys, and it seems like this type of sparring is very popular these days. Almost everyone in that interview spars this way except for Overeem who likes to go hard 100%
