imagine if the golden state warriors or new england patriots decided to sit out next season because they wanted to hold onto their titles and remain "champs" for a little longer?

Let's get rid of retained "Champs" and just have the title up for grabs by the 2 best available fighters in the division.

this way guys can be "2 time champs", "1 time champs", "7 time champs" etc... depending on how many they win.

everytime you are fighting for a new title.

a title in every division is fought for 3 times a year. or if you want 2 times a year. if the previous champ cant make it the next 2 best fighters compete for it, (previous champ gets next shot)

This way we dont have to deal with prima donnas like mighty mouse, tyrone woodley and now DC.
 
I like the PFL format. The seasons work really well. It's just a case of making selections of fighters.
 
Yeh we already sort of have that genius. It's called Interim belts...and spoiler alert. It's all still a shit show

The opinions of two dozen hardcores are irrelevant. This shit does not work in MMA.

How about just have two guys fight, and the winner fights the champ?

And if the champ is STILL out, have that winner fight someone else.


I just care who’s the best, not who has the belt. Holding out for a title shot doesn’t do anything for me as the fan.
 
Yea thats a quick way to make the championship mean even less than it does now
Whats the point of following your favorite fighter as he works his way to a title fight if he wont still be champ on Sunday morning

Heres an idea lets make a rank system were fighteres compete for a rank then the number 2 guy is next for the title if not 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 then they can fight each other but the ranked 10 guy will have to compete with the unranked fighters while trying to get to 9 and 9 will try and get to 8 and have to fight 10 before he can do it and 8 will try n be a 7 and have to fight a 9 before he can do it and ect if injurys then skip that fighter he moves down a rank if hea not ready at rank 10 he loses it and it goes to the next unranked guy with a good win or recent win ect....

Oh yea ranking dont fucking matter in the ufc its all games and bullshit..

I can't like your comment ('cause of my yellows),
but your idea if effing brilliant!

Schedule title fights at particular days through each year, and invite certain fighters to participate. If they can't make it due to injury, many others will be ready to replace them.

 
Just actually use the rankings and make them defend 3 times in 2 years with at least 1 defense in a year
 
better solution. You fight within 6 months or an interim belt fight is issued - if you fail to fight within a year you stripped. That simple. Max in no way should be still champ after pulling out 3 straight fights even if it might not of been a year either. You pull out of 2 or more fights also stripped.

Fight ranking sucks anyway because maybe #2 guy cannot best the champ, but #4 has the style that could.
 
so you're basically saying you want to go back to the tournament system...
 
So if we're going to do that how about if you can't fight 1 every 12 months you get dropped from the rankings too?
