Sodas in UK are no longer drinkable

meh, doesnt bother me. fat people always say theyre fat bc eating healthy is "expensive" (its really not) so maybe . . . nah they still gonna drink soda nevermind
Lmao

My healthiest was when I was poor in college and mainly lived off rice, beans, chicken, fruit and whatever frozen veggies I could find on sale.

Eating healthier isn’t expensive. It’s a matter of self control and responsibility, but these people don’t want to be held accountable for anything especially when they develop all these fucked up disorders.

Ya this is fucking dumb and youre dumb if you agree with this.

Its not so much i care for soda or the price but take what theyre doing and apply it to something else.

Ive heard that gaming is one cause of obesity, since you sit there with no activity. so say the government says oh if this game has more than 20 hours of game play we tax you.

The government is stealing from you and some of you are ok with that? This out right fucking bullshit. government is always making some type of new tax

I never got how people drink that shit everyday anyway. I could do a very dry ginger ale a few times a week at the most. Even one non HFC Coca Cola is more than enough for me for a good while.

its just laziness imo, and they really dont *want* to change. i grew up on french fries and penny candy, but when i decided i wanted to get healthy i ~researched~ and ~learned~ how to shop for healthier food, and it cost me very little considering i was on a strict budget at the time. canned and frozen veggies are cheap and perfectly suitable to eat, and i say that because everybody cries "I CANT AFFORD FRESH PRODUCE" like bruh, you dont have to . . .

I think taxing sugary foods is more analogous to taxing something like tobacco or alcohol than somehow taxing time spent on a video game.

Oh look, the gov't taking more steps to micromanage people's lives with more "taxes".

Not sure if Mayberry or perhaps should be a War room thread.

Sugar Tax is in effect which means any drinks that contains more than 5.0 grams of sugar per 100ml are getting taxed extra.

So what soda manufacturers in UK do? 90% of them are cutting sugars from say 11g per 100ml to 4.9g and tops up rest with sweeteners. I remember days were Fanta during summer was a lovely refreshing drink. Now it taste so bad that u might as well drink water.

All that is to prevent obesity and sugar addiction - ok, I get it.

But listen to this and you go weak:

Squash which is nothing but concentrate which u dilute with water is above 5g of sugar per CONCENTRATED 100ml and therefore is included in sugar tax law. And the answer is that only those drinks that contain naturally occurring sugar like fruit juices are exempt from this. (oh right, because people are drinking concentrate)

So whenever you come to visit UK, opt out for Coke and Red Bull because thats from what I see is the only drink fully sugary and tasty. The rest, even Monster is now half sugar half sweetener.
I only drink silver can monster which has no sugar and tastes fucking marvelous.

My point is that its endless. Theyre literally taxing food. whether its good for you or not. if they deem something else not good for you then they can tax it.

Trust me this is not good. People are being robbed daily by the their own government and most are too stupid to see it.

It's getting unbearable here, 90% of drinks taste like shit now, I used to love Lucozade and now it's undrinkable.

Alot of places like KFC are just getting rid of full fat Pepsi all together and I suspect it won't be long until all restaurants, bars, pubs, clubs and shops do aswell.

All the pubs I go to have got rid of it.

Mars chocolate milk has become like gold dust now it's so rare and I loved that drink.

This place is going to the dogs big time, useless government does more about the 'sugar problem' than the fucking foreigners, rapists, terrorists and gang bangers the useless cunts.

Some healthy food is fucking expensive. I switched to eating all fresh from my store, less meat, eating more beans and grains. My grocery bill doubled. Which is kinda shitty for me tbh. Shit like pasta and shit food is super cheap compared to getting healthy food. Canned fruit/veggies are shit foods and not acceptable alternatives to fresh. Absolute trash.

Its definitely more expensive than the cheapest route, fresh fruit and vegetables cost more than some budget processed food.

Well, it has not become endless. The point of taxing it is theoretically to cover the associated health care costs which are partially or completely being borne by the masses. You'd rather pay for their health care in taxes or insurance premiums than have the food that causes their issues taxed? Because that's probably what you're doing right now.

Fuck this concept of Sin tax
It's yet another way our government can take the bribes from big business, but still pass the responsibility for the damage they cause onto the consumer.

we get screwed over with everything

just look at fuel price

that being said, i don't drink fizzy drinks that much.
though i did buy some yesterday just to keep in the house and price/taste seem the same, 6 dr peppers for £2.00, 12 cans of pepsi for £5.52

They repealed the sugar tax here in come cities, either because of enough complaining or because companies like Pepsi threatened to pull all of their products off the shelf in that city.

I always liked that the sodas in the UK and Ireland had less sugar than the equivalent product in the US. Pretty crazy they still try to tax it there anyway.
Please tell us the next time you are in the UK so me and @Kristian82 can visit you

There's no tax on unhealthy shit where I live and I drink soda quite often. But I'm not a fat ass because I try not to over do it and go to the gym regularly. Personal responsibility must be an alien concept to some.

Unfortunately that's how it can play out in a corrupt system. But at least in theory, government intervention is desirable and sometimes even necessary to deal with externalities and avoid the tragedy of the commons.

Does the UK still have the old tv tax where the collector drives around with a detector?
