I lost some interest in MMA from around 2011-2015, and now I am starting to fully pay attention and watch again, so can anyone tell me when social media bonuses ended and why? I remember there being controversy with Miguel Torres and Forrest tweeting inappropriate things, but I've never known when or why they stopped giving them out. It may seem obvious and dumb but I would appreciate an answer, thank you :)

I've no idea. You generally post nudes to get a question answered.

I don't know why and I'm sorry that I can't answer your question, but I think it's a good thing that these bonuses don't exist anymore. Can you imagine the scenario? Fighters would be talking shit on Twitter and they would be acting like attention whores all the time.

Oh, wait. Bonuses are not even necessary for that.

Stop watching again. It's not worth it. Just read the fight results and be like "oh" . That's what i do now and it's much more rewarding.

IIIRC At a UFC fighter conference a few years back when fighters were just getting on twitter, the UFC wanted guys to be more active to generate more publicity for the UFC. Most fighters had a twitter account, but rarely tweeted. I think the bonus was for how many followers they could pick up in a given time period. I don't think that lasted very long. They definitely don't give out anymore social media bonuses.

Its was a branding thing.

They paid fighters for how many followers they had. But 2 things killed that.

1 fighters having what was called bot fans. (Fake accts created by computers to increase the numbers.)

2 that branding ploy only worked so well. The pay out turned out to not be worth it.

I don't have the answer you're looking for..

My goodness you're useless, couldn't you have just had that thought and not typed it out?

Do you think you're the center of this forum that when anyone makes a thread it's directed at you?

Good day sir

I need a cigarette

They stopped because Lorenzo couldn't afford that $20K a year they paid out for them.

I recall it being $5000 but often they paid it out and to how many fighters I don't know.

It was a ridiculous idea. Torres was fired over it and still to this day Dana is tweeting some real nasty shit to fans on a daily basis. Dana's a do what I say, not what I do kinda guy.

Same reason they took away "heaviest pet" categories in Guinness Book of World Records - to dis-encourage people from overfeeding their pets. That bonus encourages Tweets that violate the UFC code of conduct, which sucks because offensive stuff provide the best popcorn.

I think it was $5000 to four different fighters per year who had the most posts per quarter or something. That's why I said $20K. Lorenzo probably decided that he couldn't afford that.

$5k per month to 4 fighters would have been cool but per year? Not even worth the effort and risk.

To give a serious answer, I'd guess it ended when they realized no outside stimulus was necessary for fighters to have a social media presence

If anything expect the UFC to start charging a social media fee in order for fighters to have a twitter profile in the near future
