so why isnt cerrone fighting khabib, when both wanted it

I only saw the recent twitter exchange...

Khabib was offered a contract to fight cerrone...he signed it, and posted it on instagram

Khabib then claimed cerrone backed out, with injured ribs

Cerrone said his ribs are find and he wants the fight

So why is khabib fighting this newcomer now??
 
They want Khabib fresh for UFC 200? I prefer RDA vs Ferguson though.
 
To add a highlight to Khabibs record? Although we know how well that's worked out for the UFC this year
 
Well, Cerrone does have another fight scheduled. I'm guessing signing that Horcher guy was just easier, logistically.

-Khabib has been off for 2 years and UFC wants to give him warm up fight as opposed to top guy last minute. Either Khabib mauls this newcomer and gets in title contention possibly asap, or Horcher starches Khabib and we have a new star.
-Cerrone already has a fight booked with Cote. Cerrone is a nice name and will help sell that Canadian card.
 
UFC ottawa goes on sale next week, can you imagine if they took cerrone off that card and had cote fight some bum. They would be pissed.

Horcher probably getting paid peanuts as well so if he loses then they just cut him and khabib gets a nice warm up
 
Cerrone's ship in the 155 title picture has sailed with RDA being the champion. If Donald were to win, that derails Khabib and they lose a title challenger. Diaz is a fight they could sell against RDA, but he's fighting Cloner. There is no certainty that either of those two win and no one knows what Cloner would do if he won, especially when Dana is painting himself into a corner saying Cloner will defend at 145 no matter what.

So basically 155 has Alvarez as a contender if Cerrone were to beat Khabib. In this instance, it's a fresh fight for Khabib coming off of an injury and if he wins, he could fight another contender or for the title soon.
 
Really weird situation. Hopefully soon enough some info comes out as to why Khabib thought Donald was hurt and why they both had contracts if the fight was never gonna go down anyways.

But why would both guys have said to signed contracts? That's what makes absolutely no sense here. Your post makes sense lol

Who reported they signed contracts? Being honest. I've been out of the loop lately. Working some long hours right now.
 
UFC has a habit of making the fights we don't want, but then using their media circus to tell us all that we do want these fights.
 
Because he tried to dictate terms and only one person tell Dana what to do (apparently).
