I dont like that the UFC does this with viable contenders. I feel the same way about Ilia tbh but apparently he is making a full move to 155. If Islam loses he will run back down to 155 and try to cut weight again. These guys are weight bullies. I'm a Khabib guy and I'd say the same for him.

Shavkat is as good of a number 1 contender as there is. Buckley beats Usman and we have another solid guy. 170 does not need Islam, and he's going to lose btw

Topuria knocking out Volkanovski and Holloway back to back are in my opinion the greatest back to back victories in MMA history. People may not agree with that but they certainly have to agree it's in the discussion.

Knocking out Volk one of the greatest FWs ever is a hundred times more impressive than a close decision over Belal a guy who just got the belt.

Then knocking out another FW GOAT, who has never been knocked out immediately after that is yet again a 100 times more impressive.

Yeah I don’t buy that one bit lol. It’s obvious he wants to recreate the Conor path. He wants an accelerated career to make him a star beyond mma, the dude has much larger ambitions, and that doesn’t include constantly defending the belt against guys like Evloev and Lopez. Imagine if they'd brought in someone like Niko Price or Alex Oliveira as a short-notice replacement to fight Tyron Woodley or Usman for the title and they actually won. That's what this is more or less.

Neither Ilia nor Islam should get an immediate title fight in their new weight classes, make them earn their title shots in the heavier division first, no more jumping line just because they beat some smaller guys in the smaller divisions. What is the freaking rush, are they both elderly and about to retire, so we must give them this final chance at another belt before they are too old to fight again? It would be much more fun, and much more fair to the fighters already in the heavier divisions, if the smaller guys worked their way up a bit to see if they really deserve a Title shot there. i know, I know Conor, Volk etc skipped line and that worked out great right? I say let Ilia fight guys like Paddy, Gamrot & Hooker, before a shot at the belt, and Islam can fight the Buckley, Garry & Brady level guys before a shot at the belt.
