I think is a tough call for fighters right now.

Not everybody is Fedor,Jon Jones,Anderson Silva,etc.....They are average fighters doing it for money and depend on the job...They have a limited range of tools that might not be the finest.

We all know the UFC rule about 3 strikes and your out but with fitch being cut, it kind of sends a message to the fighters that fighting safe and not being a huge name could mean your cut when you dun goof.

I mean 100 people are suppose to be cut...So what will an average fighter do now, just go all balls out which could mean he could get finished quickly or fight safe to win.

It must really suck, I mean not everybody can be a Leonard Garcia and just go out their like a mad man, some people don't have the chin or style for that.

These couple of next months are gonna be interesting if the UFC is serious about cutting 100 fighters.

Hopefully it will discourage the lay n pray, fight stalling tactics that has killed the experience for so many casual fans

Well if Mike pierce gets cut after his next split decision loss then the message is clear.

I'd say to fighters fight your heart out to entertain but if u go on a 2 fight skid win at all costs till you're back in the win column

But if thats somebody style...I mean is kind of hard to change.

Changing could mean they get KTFO or subbed which could also mean they are cut.

Is just a tough place.

But as a spectator, I will be glad to have less wall n stall and lay n pray.

Kind of wished they got rid of the cage and changed the rules to avoid that crap tho.

If you keep winning, fight safe, and Dana won't cut you.

If you draw, lose a decision, and get KOd, and win one exciting fight in between because the other guy can grapple, you better go in the for the kill.

Fitch had full mount on Erick Silva, and proceeded to girly slap him every 5 seconds. Terrible. A couple of choice elbows would have finished that fight.

I think it will mostly affect guys who are losing a fight and don't go all out/change up. Guys who are winning a fight and continue doing what they're doing, aren't in so much trouble.

So many of the cut guys sleepwalk (exaggeration) to a UD loss.

Yeah I understand that for some lay n praying is the only way for them to be successful and I don't blame them. But as a fan im not paying to watch that and it isnt what this sports all about.

Answer: The fighters who make Dana money will keep their jobs. Fighting style is just one aspect. Look at Guida. His last few fights have been boring, but a lot of casual fans love him.

I hate LnP as much as the next guy.

But honestly, wrestlers gon' be afraid to wrestle now..

Dana is going off the rails imo. He said about Erick Silva 'who the fuck is Erick Silva?', and about Fitch 'he's never even been a fucking champion.'

Stupid, stupid remarks imo. Looks like the power is going to his head.

I think the UFC has been sending wrong signals for a long time, which is fucked up...

It seems to be the american way, where only the win is important, I prefer the Pride way where if you loose with heart and dignity you wont get cut, I prefer to see a fighter getting his ass beat repeteadly but putting a show Ala Wanderlei, than a conservative fighter putting the wins in his bucket, but not provoking any response from the fans...

And I think it would be better for the sport, guys like GSP or Fitch would be much more agressive if they didn't have the pressure of being cut if they loose a couple of time

Currently if you're a UFC fighter you're kinda stuck, you dont know if you'd better go for the safest win cause you might get cut if you loose, or go wild and take the risk to loose... and get cut...

True True...I guess they could troll to get some fans.

But people like guida because of his previous fighting style so thats the only aspect they like about him I think.

It is true thats not what the sport is about...But when I see the rules of the sport, the cage,etc....Is kind of hard to say thats not what the sport is about.

Chris Lytle is a good example to follow for mid level fighters. Everybody knows Chris was probably never gonna win a title, but everyone loved him nonetheless because he brings it 110% every single time. I wouldn't say he fought like a mad man, but he fought with a sense of urgency everytime.

So just scrap points, 5 minute rounds until a finish. I'm guessing 75%+ are over in the 3 rounds anyway, so I doubt they'll get many 4 or 5 rounders and maybe it'll bring about the occasional 6 round epic.

Daft idea will never happen, but if Dana wants smashers rather than tactical achievers, then take away the points system.

Alternatively, install a points system for wins, draws, losses, by points, sub, TKO, KO etc and have a target set for the fighters. Fighters will know they get more for a 1rd KO than split decision, more for a sub than a TKO (example).
This pointing system could also help install a league table (ranking) which in turn could make it clearer how certain fighters' get their title shots.

The rules need to change so it doesn't favor wrestlers so much. Or referee got to break the lay n praying.

I think most fighters will learn that they are responsible for marketing themselves. Chael has a grinding style that is a lot like Fitch's. On the other hand, he is one of the most popular fighters in the UFC. You gotta sell yourself.

Wait, are you suggesting this sport is about lay n praying and stalling out fights? Or is the judging criteria and some of the rules are flawed?

The rules are flawed...It encourages Lay n Pray IMO.

The Cage encourages Wall n Stall/Stalemates even though we get to see Anthony pettis do cool stuff with it.

Ok, and im not paying to watch someone take advantage of flawed rules and scoring by making a mockery of the sport. So hopefully the Fitchs and Guidas of the world either switch it up or go fight for Viacom.

So, in other words, if a fighter doesn't have the skill to finish fights, he needs to either:

a) Go with the Chael Sonnen route and talk a lot of trash
b) Go with the Dave Herman route and put on a fashion show

c) Go with the Diego Sanchez route and summon the power of Christ

D) If all else fails, go with the pro-wrestling costume route
